Գյումրու քաղաքապետ Սամվել Բալասանյանը հոկտեմբերի 17-ին ընդունեց և շնորհավորեց Գյումրիում գործող լրատվամիջոցների ներկայացուցիչներին՝ հայկական մամուլի օրվա առթիվ:
Արդեն ավանդույթ դարձած այս հանդիպումները առիթ են հիշելու լրագրողական աշխատանքի դժվարություններն և կարևորությունը: Գյումրու քաղաքապետ Սամվել Բալասանյանը շնորհավորելով մարզի լրատվական ոլորտի ներկայացուցիչներին՝ մասնագիտական հաջողություն և համակարգված աշխատանք մաղթեց: «Մամուլի առողջ ու օբյեկտիվ քննադատությունը հնարավորություն է տալիս մեզ լավ աշխատել հօգուտ քաղաքի. եթե վատ է՝ վատը գրեք, լավ՝ լավը, բայց միայն օբյեկտիվ: Քաղաքում շատ բացասական երևույթներ հնարավոր եղավ վերացնել հատկապես լրատվական դաշտի լավ աշխատանքի շնորհիվ»,-«Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ՝ նշեց Սամվել Բալասանյանը՝ կարևորելով մամուլի դերը առաջիկայում քաղաքի զարգացման հնգամյա ծրագրի կազման և հաստատման գործում:
Հատկապես Շիրակում լրատվական դաշտը բավական լուրջ ու կայուն դիրք ունի: Լինելով հանրապետության երկրորդ քաղաքը՝ Գյումրիում գործում է 4 հեռուստաընկերություն, հանրապետական գրեթե բոլոր լրատվամիջոցների ունեն մարզային թղթակիցներ, տպագրվում են տեղական թերթեր: Ամենախնդրաշատ մարզերից մեկը՝ խնդիրները բարձրաձայնելու շատ հարթակներ ունի՝ լրատվական տարբեր միջոցներով: Սա է պատճառը, որ Շիրակի մարզում լրատվական դաշտը կայացած համարում են բոլորը: Շիրակում կա իր խոսքն ու դիրքն ունեցող լրատվական դաշտ:
Հայաստանում հայկական մամուլի օրը նշվում է հոկտեմբերի 16-ին: 1794 թվականի հոկտեմբերի 16-ին Մադրասում տպագրվել է առաջին հայկական ամսագիրը՝ «Ազդարարը»: «Ազդարարը» 1794-96 թվականների ընթացքում լույս է տեսել ամիսը մեկ անգամ: ՀՀ կառավարության որոշմամբ 2004 թվականի ապրիլի 22-ից այդ օրը հաստատվեց «Մամուլի աշխատակցի» տոն, որը հետագայում վերանվանվել է Հայ մամուլի օր:
