Չիկագոյի Օ’Հարա միջազգային օդանավակայանում American Airlines ավիաընկերությանը պատկանող Boeing 767 ինքնաթիռի աջ շարժիչը պայթել է թռիչքի ժամանակ՝ շարժիչի բեկորները նետելով մի քանի հարյուր մետր հեռավորության վրա, հայտնում է CNN-ը։
Ինքնաթիռում եղել է 161 ուղևոր և անձնակազմի 9 անդամ։ Նրանք բոլորը տարհանվել են ինքնաթիռի աջ կողմում հրդեհի բռնկումից հետո։
Հաղորդվում է, որ 20 մարդ տեղափոխվել է հիվանդանոց՝ տարհանման ժամանակ ստացած վնասվածքներով։
Ինքնաթիռն ուղևորվում էր Մայամի, սակայն ստիպված է եղել դադարեցնել թռիչքը՝ շարժիչի հետ առաջացած խնդրի պատճառով։
Օդանավակայանի հրշեջ ծառայության ղեկավար Թիմոթի Սեմփին հայտնել է, որ իրենք արձագանքել են ինքնաթիռի երկրորդ շարժիչի հրդեհվելու ահազանգին։ Նա նշել է, որ հետևանքները կարող էին սարսափելի լինել, եթե շարժիչը բռնկվեր փոքր-ինչ ավելի ուշ։
