 Պաշտոնական Բեռլինը խստորեն դատապարտել է Թուրքիայում «Ջումհուրիեթ» պարբերականի և դրա լրագրողների դեմ ոստիկանության գործողությունները: Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը` վկայակոչելով գերմանական Deutsche Welle գործակալությունը, այս մասին լրագրողների հետ զրույցում խոսել է կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելի խոսնակ Շթեֆան Զ այբերտը:

Ընդգծելով, որ Մերկելը մեծապես կարևորում է մամուլի ազատությունը և որ այս հարցը քննարկվում է Գերմանիայի և Թուրքիայի միջև տեղի ունեցող հանդիպումների ժամանակ` Զայբերտն ասել է. «Նախորդ ամիս Պոտսդամում Մերկելի հյուրերի շարքում էր նաև «Ջումհուրիեթ» պարբերականի նախկին գլխավոր խմբագիր Ջան Դյունդարը: Կցանկանայի հիշեցնել Մերկելի խոսքը, որն ուղղված էր Դյունդարին: Կանցլերն ասաց. «Մամուլի ազատությունը հնարավոր է, երբ չկա պետության միջամտությունը և գրաքննություն»: Մամուլի ազատության մասին սրանք են մեր ընկալումներ և այս մասին մենք հայտնել են թուրքական կառավարությանը տարբեր մակարդակների հանդիպումների ժամանակ»:

Նա անդրադարձել է նաև Թուրքիայում մահապատժի վերականգման մասին թուրք պաշտոնյաների հայտարարություններին` նշելով. «Մահապատժի հետ կապված մեր դիրքորոշումը հստակ է և անփոփոխ: Մահապատիժ կիրառող երկիրը չի կարող դառնալ ԵՄ անդամ: Հետևաբար, մահապատժի ընդունումը կդառնա ԵՄ-ին Թուրքիայի անդամակցության վերջը»: Զայբերտը փաստել է, որ սա ոչ միայն Գերմանիայի, այլև ողջ Եվրոպայի դիրքորոշումն է այս հարցում:

Թուրքիայում ընդդիմադիր լրատվամիջոցներին լռեցնելու դեպքերի առնչությամբ մտահոգություն է հայտնել նաև Գերմանիայի ԱԳՆ-ն: ԱԳՆ խոսնակի տեղակալ Զավզան Չեբլին նշել է, որ Թուրքիայում մամուլի ազատության հետ կապված իրադարձությունները խստորեն անհանգստացնում են իրենց:
