Շաքարային դիաբետը կանխելու համար սննդակարգում պետք է սահմանափակվի յուղալի սննդի և աղի օգտագործումը,փոխարենը՝ պարունակի ձավարեղեն, մրգեր, բանջարեղեն, անյուղ միս:Անհրաժեշտ է նաև պայքարել ավելորդ քաշի դեմ, դադարեցնել ծխելը և սահմանափակել ալկոհոլի օգտագործումը:
