Սիրիայի նախագահ Բաշար Ասադն իր պարտքն է համարում երկրում մնալ ռազմական գործողությունների ժամանակ և մտադիր չէ հեռանալ նախագահի պաշտոնից: Այս մասին նա ասել է Sunday Times պարբերականին տված հարցազրույցում:

«Անձամբ ինձ համար ավելի հեշտ կլիներ մեկնել և վայելել կյանքը, չէ՞ որ (ճգնաժամը) ինձ առավելություններ չի տալիս, այլ միայն պատասխանատվություն է սահմանում: Բայց իմ առաջադրանքը որպես նախագահ դա չէ: Հիմա իրավիճակը նորմայից դուրս է եկել, սա պատերազմ է, և որպես գլխավոր հրամանատար դու պետք է կանգնես քո երկիրը պաշտպանող բանակի գլուխ: Հիմա հեռանալու ժամանակը չէ»,- ասել է Ասադը:
