Արեւելագիտության ինստիտուտի տնօրեն, թուրքագետ ՌուբենՍաֆրաստյանը կարծում է, որ Դոնալդ Թրամփի ընտրությունը որպես ԱՄՆ նախագահ կարող է դրական ազդեցություն  ունենալ Մերձավոր Արեւելքում տիրող իրավիճակի վրա: «Հույս ունեմ, որ Թրամփի ընտրությամբ ԱՄՆ-ի եւ Ռուսաստանի միջեւ ռազմական բախման վտանգը Մերձավոր Արեւելքում, մասնավորապես՝ Սիրիայում, կպակասի: Ցավոք, Սիրիայի հետ կապված վերջին շրջանի զարգացումները ռուս-ամերիկյան հարաբերություններում առաջացնում էին մտավախություն, որ կարող է այդ ռազմական բախումը տեղի ունենալ: Մյուս կողմից՝ պետք է հաշվի առնել այն հանգամանքը, որ  նախընտրական հռետորաբանությունը տարբերվում է իրական քաղաքականությունից, եւ գնահատել հետագա զարգացումները՝ հենվելով միայն հռետորաբանության վրա, բնականաբար, միամտություն է: Կարծում եմ՝ մենք հնարավորություն կունենանք մի քանի ամիս հետո գնահատել, թե ինչ նորություններ կմտցնի Թրամփը արտաքին քաղաքականության մեջ»,-«Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ՝ լրագրողների հետ զրույցում ասաց թուրքագետը:

Նա նշեց, որ հատկապես մեծ ակնկալիքներ ունի ԱՄՆ կողմից իսլամական ահաբեկչության դեմ ավելի հստակ ու վճռական պայքար մղելու հարցում:

«Այնուամենայնիվ, պետք է հաշվի առնել նաեւ այն, որ ի դեմս Թրամփի՝ ԱՄՆ նախագահ դարձավ մի մարդ, որն անցել է բավական հագեցած ճանապարհ բիզնեսի բնագավառում, եւ պետք է նրան սովորեցնել իսկապես լինել շատ հաշվենկատ, հաշվի առնել ոչ միայն իր շահերը, այլեւ շրջապատի:  Այս առումով, կարծում եմ՝ Թրամփի քաղաքականությունը հիմնված կլինի ավելի շատ ոչ թե հռետորաբանության վրա, ինչպես տեսանք Օբամայի նախագահության ժամանակ, այլ  տարբեր տարածաշրջաններում տեղի ունեցող իրողությունները հաշվի առնելու»,-ընդգծեց Ռուբեն Սաֆրաստյանը:
