Հայկական շախմատի առաջատար Լևոն Արոնյանի կարծիքով շախմատի աշխարհի չեմպիոնի համար մրցախաղում հետաքրքրությունը շատ մեծ է:
«Շատ հետաքրքիր պահ է: Կարլսենը պարտիաներում, որտեղ պետք է հաղթող դուրս գար, չհաղթեց: Կարլսենի ամենամեծ ուժը, որն իրեն առանձնացնում է՝ շատ արագ վերականգնվում է: Կարելի է համարել, որ Կարյակինի հնարավորությունները ավելի բարձր են, բայց ամեն ինչի կարելի է սպասել: Ես երկուսին էլ լավ գիտեմ: Շախմատի համար կարող է ավելի լավ լինել, եթե Կարյակինը հաղթի, քանի նոր հետաքրքրություն կառաջանա»,-«Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ՝ ասել է Արոնյանը:
Շախմատի աշխարհի չեմպիոնի կոչման համար մրցախաղում առաջին հաղթանակը տոնեց Սերգեյ Կարյակինը: Նյու Յորքում ընթացող աշխարհի չեմպիոնի կոչման համար մրցախաղի 8-րդ պարտիայում ռուս գրոսմայստեր Սերգեյ Կարյակինին հաջողվեց սև խաղաքարերով գերազանցել աշխարհի գործող չեմպիոնին: Պարտիայի 52-րդ քայլում նորվեգացին անձնատուր եղավ: Այժմ Կարյակինն ունի 4,5 միավոր, իսկ Կարլսենը՝ 3,5:
