Եղինջն ունի հարուստ քիմիական բաղադրություն։ Եղինջի հականեխիչ հատկությունն օգնում է պահպանել սննդամթերքի թարմությունը։ Եղինջը հարուստ է կալիումի, կալցիումի, երկաթի աղերով։ Պարունակում է պղինձ, քրոմ, ցինկ, մանգան, օրգանական թթուներ, հարուստ է սպիտակուցով։

Եղինջը պարունակում է մեծ քանակությամբ պրոտեիններ: Վիտամին C-ի պարունակությամբ քիչ է զիջում սեւ հաղարջին եւ գերազանցում է ցիտրուսներին։
Եղինջը հարուստ է ենթավիտամին A-ով։ Եղինջը պարունակում է նաեւ B1, B2, B3, B5, K վիտամիններ։ Բույսը ունի միզամուղ, հակաբորբոքային ազդեցություն։ Իջեցնում է խոլեստերինի մակարդակն արյան մեջ, կարգավորում է մարսողությունը։ Ժողովրդական բժշկության մեջ օգտագործվում է որպես դեղամիջոց ներքին արյունահոսության ժամանակ։ Սակավարյունության դեպքում ավելացնում է հեմոգլոբինը արյան մեջ։ Եղինջի թուրմերը խորհուրդ են տրվում ռեմատիզմի, երիկամների, միզապարկի բորբոքման, լյարդի հիվանդությունների, թութքի եւ այլ հիվանդությունների դեպքում։
Այն բարերար ազդեցություն ունի նաեւ սրտանոթային համակարգի վրա, նպաստում է վնասված հյուսվածքների ապաքինմանը, կիրառվում է գինեկոլոգիայի մեջ։ Եղինջի պատրաստուկները կիրառվում են մաշկի բուժման համար, նպաստում է պսորիազի, կորյակների, մազաթափության բուժմանը։
