Քեյթ Լուկասն ու իր ամուսինն արդեն հասցրել էին իրենց երեխաներին մեծացնել, երբ որոշեցին կանգ չառնել ու ևս մի երեխա ունենալ: Հղիության թեստը տվեց դրական արդյունք, ինչն ամենևին չզարմացրեց փորձառու մորը: Եկավ առաջին ստուգման օրը. Քեյթը, լցված մայրական զգացմունքներով ու բացարձակ երջանկությամբ, գնաց բժշկի մոտ: Նրա բժիշկը վաղուց էր կատակում, որ այս անգամ նա երկվորյակներ է ունենալու, բայց պարզվեց, որ կատակը մարգարեություն էր. Քեյթի որովայնում երկու սրտիկներ էին բաբախում, ու սա, ցավոք սրտի, միակ նորությունը չէր այդ օրը:
Բանն այն է, որ էմբրիոնները բաժանվել էին իրարից բեղմնավորումից ընդամենը 8-13 օր անց, ինչը նշանակում է, որ նրանց միջև չէր հասցրել ձևավորվել պաշտպանիչ թաղանթ: Մի քանի օրից երեխաները կարող էին սիամական երկվորյակներ դառնալ, բայց սա դեռ փորձանքի կեսն էր: Նման հղիությունների ժամանակ պտուղներից մեկի պորտալարը կարող է փաթաթվել մյուս պտղի պարանոցին ու խեղդամահ անել նրան: Երեխաների կյանքը վտանգված էր՝ դեռ չսկսված:
Բժիշկը խորհուրդ տվեց Քեյթին չանհանգստանալ ու ամեն ինչ գաղտնի պահել՝ թողնելով բնության ընտրությանը… Սակայն ո՞ր մայրը կարող էր այդպես վարվել: 28 շաբաթական հղիության ընթացքում Քեյթը հիվանդանոց ընկավ, որտեղ 35 օր շարունակ ամեն վայրկյան պայքարեց իր մանկիկների կյանքի համար: Նա ծննդաբերեց կեսարյան հատումով, ու երբ բժիշկները տեսան երեխաների պորտալարերը, վիրահատարանում քար լռություն տիրեց:
Բանն այն է, որ պորտալարերը շատ պինդ հյուսված էին, ու գրեթե անհավանական է, բայց երկու երեխաներն էլ ողջ էին: Սակայն սա դեռ ամենը չէ:
Քանի որ երկվորյակները ժամկետից վաղ էին լույս աշխարհ եկել, նրանք շատ փոքրիկ էին ու թույլ, բայց փառք Աստծո՝ լիովին առողջ: Բժիշկները ճիշտ պահ ընտրեցին կեսարյան հատման համար, քանի որ եթե վիրահատությունն ուշանար մի քանի ժամով անգամ, հյուսված պորտալարերն ապրելու շանս չէին թողնի մանկիկներին:
Չնայած նրան, որ երեխաներն ինկուբատորի մեջ մնալու կարիք չունեին, նրանք շարունակում էին գտնվել ինտենսիվ վերահսկողության ներքո: Բժիշկներն ու ծնողները չէին դադարում անհանգստանալ, քանի որ այսպես ծնված երկվորյակների միայն 1 տոկոսն է ողջ մնում, բայց արի ու տես, որ այս երկվորյակները հենց այդ 1 տոկոսից էին: Ահա տեսեք, թե ինչ չքնաղ աղջնակներ են դարձել նրանք:
Հարփերն ու Կլեոն ներկայումս 8 տարեկան են և անչափ մտերիմ են, չնայած որ խիստ տարբեր բնավորություններ ունեն: Բնականաբար, նրանք հիմա չեն հիշում, թե ինչ անասելի դժվարությամբ են լույս աշխարհ եկել ու երկուսով ողջ մնացել:
