Եվրոպացի մի խումբ բժիշկներ բացատրել են կապտուկների առաջացման պատճառը: Դա փափուկ հյուսվածքների վնասվածքն է, որի հետեւանքով անոթների արյունազեղում է տեղի ունենում, ինչը մաշկը դարձնում է անսովոր կապտա-մանուշակա-կարմիր գույն։ Մասնագետները նաեւ պարզաբանել են, թե ինչն է նպաստում կապտուկների հայտնվելուն եւ թե ինչու որոշ մարդկանց մոտ դրանք ավելի հաճախ են հայտնվում, քան մյուսների մոտ։

Հաճախակի կապտուկների պատճառներից մեկը ծերացումն է, նկատել են բժիշկները։ Երբ մենք ծերանում ենք, մարմնի արյունատար անոթներն ու հյուսվածքները, ինչպես նաեւ մաշկը բարակում են, կորցնում են առաձգականությունը։ Դրա համար էլ մազանոթներն ավելի վատ են պաշտպանում վնասվելուց:

Որոշ դեղեր, որոնք օգտագործվում են բորբոքային հիվանդությունների եւ ասթմաների բուժման համար, մաշկն ավելի նուրբ են դարձնում, դրա համար էլ դրա վրա ավելի հեշտորեն եւ ավելի արագ են առաջանում արյունազեղումներ։
