Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունը 24 տարեկան է

Այսօր` սեպտեմբերի 21-ին, ողջ աշխարհի հայությունը նշում է Հայաստանի Հանրապետության Անկախության օրը:
Հայաստանի Անկախության հռչակագիրն ընդունվել է 1990թ. օգոստոսի 23-ին Հայաստանի Գերագույն Խորհրդի նիստում:
ԽՍՀՄ օրենսդրությանը լիովին համապատասխան 1991թ. սեպտեմբերի 21-ին ՀՀ տարածքում անցկացվեց ԽՍՀՄ–ից դուրս գալու հարցով հանրաքվե, որին մասնակցելու իրավունք ունեցող 2,056,758 քաղաքացիներից 2,042,627-ը (94.39%) Հայաստանի անկախությանը «այո» ասացին։ Դեմ էր ընդամենը 10 հազար մարդ կամ 0,46 տոկոսը:
1990 թ. Անկախության հռչակագրից հետո ՀՀ Գերագույն խորհրդի որոշումով 1991 թ. սեպտեմբերի 21-ին Հայաստանի տարածքում անցկացվեց հանրաքվե: Հայաստանի Հանրապետության բնակչությունը պատասխանեց հետեւյալ հարցին. «Համաձայն եք, որ Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունը լինի անկախ, ժողովրդավարական հանրապետություն` ԽՍՀՄ կազմից դուրս»:
Հաջորդ օրը հրապարակվեց ՀՀ անդրանիկ անկախ օրենսդիր մարմնի դիմումը հայ ժողովրդին. «Ազատության ճանապարհին մեզ սպասում են նոր փորձություններ, դա ամենօրյա քննություն է լինելու մեզ համար: Պահպանենք մեր ոգեւորությունը, բայց համակվենք իրապաշտությամբ, շարունակենք մնալ երազող, բայց սթափ դատողությամբ»:
Սեպտեմբերի 23-ին ՀՀ Գերագույն խորհուրդը, ամփոփելով հանրաքվեի արդյունքները, Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունը հռչակեց անկախ պետություն:
Գերագույն խորհրդի կողմից անկախության հռչակումից հետո տասնյակ պետություններ ճանաչեցին Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունը: Առաջինը Լիտվան է, որ ՀՀ-ն ճանաչել է դեռ մինչեւ անկախության հռչակումը` 1991 թ. օգոստոսի14-ին: Ապա 1991 թ. ընթացքում եւս 47 պետություն ճանաչեց Հայաստանի Հանրապետության անկախությունը:
