Հայոց ցեղասպանության թեման կրկին արծարծվում է Ֆրանսիայի նախընտրական-քաղաքական օրակարգում:
Ինչպես հաղորդում է Horizon Weekly պարբերականը, այս մասին վկայում է Ֆրանսիայի «Դեպի առաջ» շարժման առաջնորդ, Ֆրանսիայի էկոնոմիկայի նախկին նախարար և ներկայիս նախագահական թեկնածու Էմանուել Մակրոնի հայտարարությունը:
Ալժիր կատարած այցի ժամանակ տեղի լրատվամիջոցին տված հարցազրույցում Մակրոնը դատապարտել էր Ֆրանսիայի կողմից Ալժիրի գաղութացման տարիները` կատարվածն անվանելով «հանցագործություն մարդկության դեմ»:
Այս հայտարարությունը բուռն արձագանքի էր արժանացել այլ ֆրանսիացի գործիչների շրջանում: Նախագահի հանրապետական թեկնածու Ֆրանսուա Ֆիլոնը Մակրոնին մեղադրել էր իր սեփական պատմության հանդեպ անհարգալից վերաբերմունք ցուցաբերելու մեջ:
Հայտարարությանն անդրադարձել է նաև ֆրանսիացի պատգամավոր Վալերի Բուաեն` նշելով, որ «Մակրոնը Հոլոքոստն ու Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը հավասարեցրել է Ալժիրի զոհերի հետ` վիրավորելով Ֆրանսիային և պետական գործչին ոչ վայել քայլ անելով»:
Մեկնաբանելով իր հայտարարությունը` Մակրոնն ավելի ուշ նշել է, որ «մարդկության դեմ հանցագործություն ասելով` մտադրություն չի ունեցել համեմատել Հոլոքոստ կամ Հայոց ցեղասպանությունն այն բանի հետ, ինչ տեղի է ունեցել Ալժիրում պատերազմի տարիներին»:
