1999 թվականին ՅՈւՆԵՍԿՕ-ն փետրվարի 21-ը հռչակեց Մայրենի լեզվի միջազգային օր:

Past.am-ի հետ զրույցում գրող, գրականագետ Հովիկ Չարխչյանն ընդգծեց, որ մեր լեզուն ավելի շատ ամենօրյա հոգատարության պահանջ ունի, քան տարատեսակ մարտահրավերներին դիմակայելու, որովհետև, ըստ նրա, պահպանման խնդիրը բոլոր ժամանակների համար է` իր առանձնահատկություններով հանդերձ:

«Ասել, թե հայերենն այժմ վտանգված է, փոքր-ինչ չափազանցված կարծիք է: Սակայն կա մեր լեզուն տարատեսակ «բացիլներից» ախտահանելու, գրական լեզվի վարկը բարձրացնելու, ուսուցման արդյունավետությունը խթանելու, նոր բառերով ու բառաձևերով հարստացնելու, զարգացման համար նպաստավոր միջավայր ձևավորելու անհրաժեշտություն: Իսկ սա հնարավոր է իրականացնել ոչ այնքան վերահսկողության խստացման, որքան հասարակական առողջ վերաբերմունքի առկայության պայմաններում: Լեզուն պետք է սիրել ու վստահել նրան, այլ ոչ թե խանդոտ ամուսնու կեցվածքով հսկողություն սահմանել»,-նշեց մեր զրուցակիցը: Պարոն Չարխչյանի խոսքով՝ լրատվական դաշտում լեզվական աղավաղումների չափաբաժինն ամենաբարձրն է: Ըստ նրա՝ սա ոչ թե միտում է, այլ տարրական անգրագիտության դրսևորում:

«Թող ինձ ներեն մեր հարգելի լրագրողները, սակայն նրանց իմացության ցածր մակարդակը ավերածություններ է գործում: Այս իրողության պայմաններում ի՞նչ ոճի, առանձնահատկության կամ ճկունության մասին կարող է խոսք լինել»,-հավելեց գրականագետը:

Չարխչյանն ասաց, որ ավելի բարվոք չէ նաև գրական միջավայրը: Նրա պնդմամբ՝ գռեհկաբանությունները, ժարգոնային արտահայտությունները, օտարածին բառերը հրամցվում են իբրև կյանքի ճշմարտացի արտացոլման գեղարվեստական միջոց` շփոթելով գեղարվեստը արձանագրման հետ:

«Պարզը դառնում է պարզունակ, ձևը` ձևականություն, միտքը` մտավարժանք: Արդյունքում ունենք այն, ինչ ունենք` ընթերցողների անվստահություն և գրավոր մշակույթ, որը ոչ մի գնով չի կարողանում ինքնահաստատվել»,- իր խոսքը եզրափակեց Հովիկ Չարխչյանը:
