Ուրցը որպես դեղաբույս հայտնի էր դեռևս Հին Հայաստանում: Այդ հրաշալի բույսը, որ աճում էր Հայկական բարձրավանդակի ալպիական բարձունքներում, ուներ հրաշագործ զորություն պարգևելու կենսական ուժ և արիություն:
Հնագույն ժողովուրդների պատկերացումների համաձայն ուրցը նաև մոգական ուժ ուներ: Այն համարվում էր արիության և խիզախության խորհրդանիշ: Հռոմեացի զինվորները խիզախություն և ուժ ավելացնելու համար լողանում էին ուրցի թուրմով: Միջնադարում օրիորդներն ասպետների զգեստների վրա ասեղնագործում էին ուրցի ոստիկ որպես քաջասրտության և արիության խորհրդանիշ:
Պատահական չէ, որ ուրցի լատիներեն անվանումը՝ Thymus, ոմանք թարգմանում են ուժ և արիություն՝ շեշտելով բույսի խթանող հատկությունները, ոմանք էլ՝ զոհաբերություն: Մեր հեթանոս հայրերը ուրցով խունկ էին ծխում աստվածների պատվին:
Ուրցը նաև լավացնում է ախորժակը, ուժեղացնում ստամոքսահյութի արտադրությունը, նպաստում մարսողությանը, հանգստացնում որովայնի ցավերը։ Արտաքին օգտագործման դեպքում կարևորվում է բույսի հակամիկրոբային և ցավազրկող ազդեցությունը։ Ուրցով թրջոցները թեթևացնում են հոդերի, մկանների, նյարդային բնույթի ցավերը:
Ուրցը կիրառվում է նաև մաշկային հիվանդությունների բուժման համար։ Թուրմով ողողում են կոկորդը եւ բերանը ստոմատիտի, լարինգիտի, անգինայի դեպքում, դնում թրջոցներ բորբոքված կոպերին, լվանում գլուխը ցավերի և թեփոտման դեպքում։ Ուրցը նաև օգտակար է տղամարդկանց, այն բարձրացնում է տղամարդկանց մոտ սեռական ակտիվություն:
