Պոկերը վաղուց է համարվում ինտելեկտուալ խաղ, որտեղ լավ խաղաթղթերի գործոնը մղվում է հետին պլան: Ավելի կարևոր են դառնում խաղային խելացի ռազմավարության ընտրությունը, հակառակորդի հոգեբանության գնահատումը և, իհարկե, համբերությունը:
