«Հանրապետականներ» կուսակցությունից Ֆրանսիայի նախագահի պաշտոնի թեկնածու Ֆրանսուա Ֆիյոնը կորցնում Է ժողովրդականությունն այն սկանդալի ֆոնին, որը կապված Է պետական միջոցների հնարավոր հափշտակման հետաքննության հետ: Ինչպես ցույց Է տվել Harris Interactive ծառայության՝ մարտի 2-ին հրապարակված հարցումը, նախընտրական մրցարշավին նրա մասնակցության շարունակման կողմնակիցների թիվը 10 տոկոսով կրճատվել Է փետրվարի 6-ի տվյալների համեմատությամբ: 
Հարցումն անցկացվել Է մարտի 1-ի մամուլի ասուլիսում Ֆիյոնի ելույթից հետո, որտեղ նա հայտարարել Է նախագահի աթոռի համար պայքարը շարունակելու մտադրության մասին, չնայած նրա նկատմամբ շարունակվող հետաքննությանը եւ դատարան ներկայանալու ծանուցագիր ստանալուն: 
980 հարցվածների միայն 25 տոկոսն Է այն կարծիքին, որ Ֆիյոնը պետք Է թեկնածու մնա այն դեպքում, երբ փետրվարի սկզբին նրան աջակցում Էր հարցման մասնակիցների 35 տոկոսը: Ընդ որում՝ ավելի քան  10 տոկոսով նրա վարկանիշն ընկել Է ինչպես «Հանրապետականներ» կուսակցությունից (67 տոկոսից մինչեւ 53 տոկոս), այնպես Էլ ընդհանուր առմամբ աջ կենտրոնամետներից (59 տոկոսից մինչեւ 48 տոկոս) նրան համակրողների շրջանում: Խոսելով Ֆիյոնի հաղթելու շանսերի մասին՝ հարցվածների ընդհանուր թվի 83 տոկոսը նշել Է, որ չի հավատում ընտրություններում նրա հաղթանակին:  
Դրա հետ մեկտեղ հարցման մասնակիցների 38 տոկոսը համաձայնել Է «Հանրապետականներից» թեկնածուի այն պնդումներին, որ իր եւ իր կնոջ դեմ գործը «քաղաքական սպանություն Է», այսինքն, ըստ Էության, իր դեմ նյութված դավադրություն:
Մարտի 2-ին ավելի վաղ Ֆրանսիայի ներքին գործերի նախարար Բրյունո լե Ռուն CNEWS հեռուստաալիքի եթերում մերժել Է Ֆիյոնի մեղադրանքները դատական համակարգի հասցեին, ընդգծելով, որ «ոչ մի դավադրություն չկա», եւ որ «կառավարությունը ոչ մի առնչություն չունի» այս գործի հետ:  
Մարտի 1-ին Ֆրանսիայի նախագահ Ֆրանսուա Օլանդը նույնպես հանդես Է եկել ի պաշտպանություն դատական կորպուսի եւ դատախազության, հայտարարելով, որ «նախագահական ընտրություններում թեկնածության առաջադրումն իրավունք չի տալիս կասկածի ենթարկել ոստիկանության եւ դատավորների աշխատանքը» եւ «չափազանց լուրջ մեղադրանքներ առաջադրել արդարադատության համակարգի դեմ»:  
Կեղծ աշխատատեղեր ստեղծելու ճանապարհով Ֆիյոնի կողմից պետական միջոցների հնարավոր հափշտակման շուրջ սկանդալը ծավալվել Է Le Canard enchaՏnռ թերթում մի շարք հրապարակումներից հետո: Թերթի տվյալներով՝ քաղաքական գործչի կինը՝ Պենելոպե Ֆիյոնը, 1998-ից մինչեւ 2002 թվականն ընկած ժամանակաշրջանում խորհրդարանականների օգնականներին վճարումների համար նախատեսված ֆոնդերից ստացել Է առնվազն 600 հազար եվրո:
Ֆրանսուա Ֆիյոնն ինքը պնդում Է, որ իր կինը կատարում Էր օգնականի աշխատանքը, սակայն բազմաթիվ պատգամավորներ հայտնել են, որ երբեք նրան չեն տեսել Ազգային ժողովում, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
