Գեղեցկության ժամանակակից չափանիշները խիստ տարբերվում են այն ամենից, ինչ կար մի քանի տարի առաջ։ Այսօր կարող է գեղեցիկ համարվել այն, ինչ մի քանի տարի առաջ տգեղ էր համարվում։
Tochka-ն գրում է, որ «Միսս Տիեզերք» գեղեցկության մրցույթը գոյություն ունի 1952 թվականից։ Այս տարիների ընթացքում գեղեցկության չափանիշները բազմիցս փոխվել են և բնական է, որ այսօրվա հաղթող աղջիկներն միանգամային այլ տեսք ունեն ու տարբերվում են մրցույթի առաջին հաղթողներից։
