ԻԻՀ հոգևոր առաջնորդն արգելեց նախկին նախագահ Ահմադինեժադին մասնակցել ընտրություններին: Մահմուդ Ահմադինեժադն էլ հայտարարեց, որ ոչ միայն ինքը չի մասնակցելու, այլև որևէ թեկնածուի չի օժանդակելու առաջիկա ընտրությունների ժամանակ, բայց ... :
ԻԻՀ հերթական նախագահական ընտրություններին իր թեկնածությունն է առաջադրել ԻԻՀ նախկին կառավարության անդամներից և Ահմադինեժադի մերձավոր գաղափարակիցներից Համիդ Բաղային:
Վերջինս չնայած հայտարարել է, որ սպասվող ընտրություններում իր մասնակցության հարցը չի քննարկել Ահմադինեժադի հետ, սակայն եթե ընտրվի, ապա շարունակելու է հենց նրա կառավարության որդեգրած քաղաքական գիծը:
Համիդ Բաղային ԻԻՀ նախկին նախագահին անվանում է «Օսթադ» (Ուսուցիչ), իսկ ի պատասխան վերջերս իր հասցեին հնչած մեղադրանքին, թե առանց Ահմադինեժադի թույլտվության ջուր չի խմում, ասել է. «Ես հպարտ եմ, որ առանց դոկտոր Ահմադինեժադի թույլտվության ջուր չեմ խմում, ի տարբերություն նրանց, որոնք առանց օտարի թույլտվության ջուր չեն խմում»:
