Վերջին շրջանում գիտնականների անցկացրած հետազոտությունները պարզել են, որ քաղցկեղածին ուռուցքները կարող են ավելի արագ աճել գիշերային ժամերին: Նրանք հայտնաբերել են, որ քաղցկեղածին ուռուցքներն ավելի արագ են աճում քնի ժամանակ, ինչը պայմանավորված է քաղցկեղային բջիջներում 2 ընկալիչների հետ:
Գիտնականները եզրակացրել են, որ քաղցկեղի բուժումն ավելի արդյունավետ է գիշերը, քան ցերեկը՝ մկների մոտ հետևելով քաղցկեղի բջիջներում երկու ընկալիչների ակտիվությանը:
Գիտնականներն այդ բջիջների զարգացմանը նպաստող երկու ընկալիչ են հայտնաբերել, որը պատասխանատու է դրանց աճի համար, իսկ երկրորդ ընկալիչը կապվում է գլյուկոկորտիկոիդ հորմոնի հետ, որը օրգանիզմում պահպանում է էներգիայի մակարդակը և հաճախ կոչվում նաև սթրեսի հորմոն:
Գիտափորձի արդյունքում գիտնականները պարզել են, որ զգալի տարբերություն կա ուռուցքների չափերի միջև՝ կախված այն բանից, թե փորձարկվող մկները երբ են ստացել հակաքաղցկեղային դեղորայքը՝ գիշե՞րը, թե՞ ցերեկը:
