Պետության համար առաջնային կարևորություն ունի սեփական էներգետիկ ռեսուրսներով այլընտրանքային էներգետիկայի զարգացումը: Վերջին տասնամյակում փոքր ՀԷԿ-երի առաջընթացը հնարավորություն տվեց վերջիններիս կողմից արտադրվող էներգետիկ հզորությունը հասցնել 330 մեգավատի:
Շուտով Երևան քաղաքի տարածքում կառուցվելու է 250 ՄՎ գազային վառելիքով կոմբինացված ցիկլով էլեկտրակայան:
Սպասվում է, որ առաջիկա տարիներին Հայաստանում կկառուցվեն նաև մինչև 150 մեգավատ հողմային և մինչև 100 մեգավատ արևային կայաններ:
Մի փոքր հեռուն նայելով` պետք է նշել, որ 2019 թվականին ավարտվելու է Հայաստան-Իրան երրորդ բարձրավոլտ գծի կառուցումը և գրեթե նույն ժամանակահատվածում պլանավորովում է Հայաստան-Վրաստան բարձրավոլտ գծի կառուցումը, ինչը կբերի Հայաստանից էլեկտրաէներգիայի արտահանման հզորությունների բազմապատկմանը, և մեր արտահանման հնարավորությունը կհասնի 1550 մեգավատտի:
