Աֆղանստանում ԱՄՆ ուժերի հրամանատար գեներալ Ջոն Նիքոլսոնը ծրագրում է ՆԱՏՕ-ի հետ համաձայնեցնել այդ երկիր լրացուցիչ 5 000 ամերիկացի զինվորական ուղարկելու հարցը: Այս մասին հայտնում է Sunday Times պարբերականը:
Պենտագոնի ղեկավարը կողմ է նախաձեռնությանը և սպասվում է, որ այն կներկայցվի դաշինքի անդամ երկրների պաշտպանության նախարարների քննարկմանը մայիսին նրանց հանդիպման ժամանակ:
«Մենք մեզ չենք կարող թույլ տալ դուրս գալ Աֆղանստանից: Դա այն վայրն է, որտեղ սեպտեմբերի 11-ին սկսվել է ահաբեկչության դեմ պայքարը: Անհաջողությունը այստեղ կոգևորեր ահաբեկիչներին ամբողջ աշխարհում, և նրանց դրոշի տակ ավելի շատ մարդ կանցներ: Մենք նաև այդ տարածաշրջանից Եվրոպա միգրանտների թվի աճի վկա կլինեինք»,- հայտարարել է գեներալը պարբերականին տված հարցազրույցում:
Նրա խոսքով՝ ներկայումս Աֆղանստանի կառավարությունը վերահսկում է «երկրի բնակչության մոտ 62%-ին և տարածքի մոտ 57%-ը»:
