Այսօր Հայաստանում խորհրդարանական ընտրություններ են կայանալու։ 2015թ. դեկտեմբերին կայացած հանրաքվեով ընդունված Սահմանադրությամբ Հայաստանի 6-րդ գումարման Ազգային ժողով են անցնելու առնվազն 105 պատգամավորներ (նրանցից 4-ը՝ ազգային փոքրամասնություններին տրվող հատուկ քվոտաներով)։

2017թ. ապրիլի 2-ի խորհրդարանական ընտրությունները միակ համապետական ընտրություններն են առաջիկա հինգ տարիների ընթացքում, քանի որ, նույն սահմանադրական փոփոխության համաձայն, Հայաստանը դառնում է խորհրդարանական հանրապետություն։

Արարողակարգային անձի վերածված նախագահին 2018թ. ապրիլի 9-ից հետո, երբ ավարտվի Սերժ Սարգսյանի պաշտոնավարման ժամկետը, ընտրելու է Ազգային ժողովը։

Երեւանի ժամանակով առավոտյան ժամը 8-ից մինչեւ 20:00-ն աշխատելու են 2009 ընտրատեղամասեր, դրանց տարածքից դուրս քվեարկություն նախատեսված չէ։ Ընտրություններն առաջին անգամ անցկացվում են բացառապես համամասնական ընտրակարգով (կուսակցական ցուցակներով)։ Առաջին անգամ կիրառվելու է նաեւ այսպես կոչված տարածքային ընտրացուցակներով ընտրությունը։ Ընտրողը կարող է կամ քվեարկել միայն իր նախընտրած քաղաքական կուսակցության կամ կուսակցությունների դաշինքի, կամ էլ՝ բացի այդ, իր քվեն տա նաեւ տվյալ ուժի կողմից այդ ընտրատարածքում առաջադրված որեւէ թեկնածուի օգտին։

Առաջին դեպքում անհրաժեշտ է նախընտրած քաղաքական ուժի քվեաթերթիկն առանց նշումների եւ ծալելու դնել ծրարը։ Երկրորդ դեպքում՝ քվեաթերթիկի հակառակ երեսին պետք է V-աձեւ նշում արվի տարածքային ընտրացուցակով առաջադրված որեւէ թեկնածուի օգտին։

Ընտրություններին մասնակցում են 5 կուսակցություններ եւ 4 դաշինքներ։ Խորհրդարան անցնելու համար կուսակցություններին անհրաժեշտ է ստանալ ընտրողների քվեների առնվազն 5 տոկոսը, դաշինքներին՝ 7 տոկոսը։
