Հիպերտոնիայի զարգացման հարցում առաջին տեղում սնունդն է: Մասնավորապես, աղն այն սննդամթերքն է, որը հիմնականում պատճառ է դառնում զարկերակային ճնշման բարձրացման: Զարկերակային ճնշման բարձրացմանը նպաստում են նաև շոկոլադն ու կակաոն, քանի որ պարունակում են նատրիումի ալգինատ կոչվող նյութը: Իսկ դա նպաստում է հեղուկի` դեպի անոթներ տեղափոխմանը և, որպես հետևանք, զարկերակային ճնշման բարձրացմանը:
Զարկերակային ճնշումն իջեցնել կօգնի աղի օգտագործման սահմանափակումը, կամ դրա բացառումը սննդակարգից: Աղի օգտագործման դադարեցումը նպաստում է նաև քաշի նվազմանը` ջրի կորստի հաշվին: Եթե չափազանց դժվար է աղից հրաժարվելը, կարող եք սկզբնական շրջանում այն փոխարինել ծովի աղով: Աղի թույլատրելի օրական չափաբաժինը 6գր. է` մեկ թեյի գդալ:
Սակայն պետք չէ մոռանալ , որ աղ պարունակվում է մարդու օգտագործած բոլոր սննդատեսակներում: Զարկերակային ճնշումը նվազեցնել կօգնի առանց աղի խաշած բրնձով բեռնաթափման օրը: Բրինձը մեծ քանակով կալիում է պարունակում, և օրվա ընթացքում միայն անալի բրնձի օգտագործումը կնպաստի օրգանիզմից նատրիումի, հետևաբար նաև հավելյալ ջրի դուրսբերմանը:
Գիտնականները մշակել են այսպես կոչված DASH սննդակարգը, որը հիմնված է նատրրիումի քանակի նվազման անհրաժեշտության վրա: Նատրիումի օպտիմալ քանակը 1,7 գրամ է, և այս չափը պահպանելու դեպքում զարկերակային ճնշումը կիջնի 10 միավորով:
