Բունդեսվերը Լատվիայում օդային հսկողության ու իրազեկման շարժական կենտրոն է բացել։ Այս մասին հայտնել է Լատվիայի ՊՆ-ն։ Ռադարային սարքավորումը տեղադրվել է Լիելվարդի ՌՕՈՒ բազայում, որը Ռիգայից մոտ 50 կմ հեռավորության վրա է գտնվում։ Այն այնտեղ կմնա երեք ամիս, քանի դեռ գերմանացի զինվորականները լատվիացի զինծառայողներին սովորեցնում են տեխնիկայի սպասարկումը, փոխանցում է DW–ը։
Գերմանիայի զինվորականները անցած տարի էլ էին այդ ռադարային սարքավորումը Լատվիա բերել։ Ներկա տեղակայման մասին հայտնել էր Գերմանիայի պաշտպանության նախարար ՈՒրսուլա ֆոն դեր Լյայենը մարտին Ռիգա կատարած այցի ժամանակ։ «Մենք չենք մոռացել, թե ինչ է նշանակում լինել երկիր արեւելյան սահմանին ու տասնամյակներ շարունակ որքանով արժեքավոր է եղել Գերմանիայի համար ՆԱՏՕ-ի գործընկերների պաշտպանությունը»,- ասել էր այն ժամանակ դեր Լյայենը՝ հիշեցնելով սառը պատերազմի մասին։ «Եկել է ժամանակը, որ մենք վերադարձնենք այն, ինչ մեզ են տրամադրել պաշտպանության առումով»,- հավելել է նախարարը։
ՆԱՏՕ-ն 2016-ի հուլիսյան գագաթնաժողովի ժամանակ որոշում է կայացրել ՆԱՏՕ-ի չորս գումարտակ տեղակայել Բալթյան երկրներում ու Լեհաստանում՝ որպես նրանց անվտանգության երաշխիքներ՝ Ուկրաինայում Ռուսաստանի գործողությունների ֆոնին։ Գերմանիան ստանձնել է գումարտակի հրամանատարությունը Լիտվայում, ԱՄՆ-ն՝ Լեհաստանում, բրիտանացիները՝ էստոնիայում, իսկ կանադացիները՝ Լատվիայում։
