 Մեծ Բրիտանիայի վարչապետ Թերեզա Մեյը հրաժարվել Է մասնակցել վաղաժամկետ խորհրդարանական ընտրություններին նախորդող հեռուստաբանավեճերին: Ինչպես նախարարների կաբինետի ղեկավարը հայտնել Է BBC կորպորացիայի եթերում, ինքը կսահմանափակվի ընտրազանգվածի հետ հանդիպումներով, տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը:  
«Մենք հեռուստաբանավեճեր չենք անցկացնի: Ես հավատում եմ (ընտրական) արշավներին, որոնց ընթացքում քաղաքական գործիչները դուրս են գալիս եւ հանդիպում ընտրողների հետ»,-ասել Է Մեյը:
Վարչապետը նաեւ հայտարարել Է, որ վաղաժամկետ ընտրությունների անցկացումը պետք Է ընդդիմադիր կուսակցություններին խանգարի՝ խափանելու Եվրամիությունից թագավորության դուրս գալու (Brexit) գործընթացը: Նրա խոսքով՝ «երբ գործը հասավ 50-րդ հոդվածի (Լիսաբոնի պայմանագրի) կիրառմանը, պարզ դարձավ, որ մի շարք ընդդիմադիր կուսակցություններ Վեսթմինսթերում փորձեցին «վիժեցնել Brexit-ի գործընթացը»:  
«Ժողովուրդը միավորված Է այդ նպատակի շուրջը: Հասարակայնությունը ցանկանում Է, որ մենք իրականացնենք Եվրամիությունից դուրս գալը եւ ապագայում կառուցենք ավելի ուժեղ Մեծ Բրիտանիա»,-ընդգծել Է Մեյը: 
Այն մասին, որ Միացյալ Թագավորության կառավարող Պահպանողական կուսակցության առաջնորդը հրաժարվում Է մասնակցել հեռուստաբանավեճերին, ապրիլի 18-ին հայտնել Էր Press Association գործակալությունը՝ վկայակոչելով կառավարության ղեկավարի դիվանատան մի աղբյուրի: 
Ընդդիմադիր Լեյբորիստական կուսակցության առաջնորդ Ջերեմի Քորբինը, իր հերթին, հայտարարել Է, որ վարչապետը «չպետք Է խուսափի դեմ առ դեմ անցկացվող հեռուստաբանավեճերից», իսկ մյուս քաղաքական ուժի՝ «Լիբերալ դեմոկրատներ» կուսակցության առաջնորդ Թիմ Ֆարոնը հորդորել Է այն հեռարձակողներին, որոնք եթեր են տալու բանավեճերը, ամեն անգամ դատարկ աթոռ դնել այն տեղում, որտեղ պետք Է նստեր թորիների թեկավարը:
Ապրիլի 18-ին վարչապետ Թերեզա Մեյը հայտարարել Է հունիսի 8-ին երկրում վաղաժամկետ համընդհանուր ընտրություններ անցկացնելու որոշման մասին: Նա այդ քայլի պատճառ Է նշել Եվրամիության կազմից Մեծ Բրիտանիայի դուրս գալու շուրջ առաջիկա բանակցությունները, որտեղ, նրա խոսքով՝ կառավարությունը պետք Է առավելագույնս ուժեղ լինի: 
Որպեսզի ժողովրդական նոր կամաարտահայտման մասին որոշումն ուժի մեջ մտնի, անհրաժեշտ Է, որ այն պաշտպանի Համայնքների պալատի պատգամավորների երկու երրորդը: Ժողովրդական ընտրյալների քվեարկությունը պետք Է կայանա ապրիլի 19-ին: Ինչպես սպասվում Է, Մեյը աջակցություն կստանա, քանի որ հիմնական կուսակցությունները հանդես են եկել վաղաժամկետ ընտրությունների անցկացման օգտին, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
