Թուրքական «նախանձը» 20-րդ դարասկզբին չխնայեց անգամ հայ մարզիկներին

1915 թվականի մեծագույն արհավիրքներից մեկին` Հայոց ցեղասպանությանը զոհ գնացած հասարակական, քաղաքական եւ մշակութային գործիչների շարքում էին նաեւ հայ մարզաշխարհի ներկայացուցիչները:

«Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ` արդեն ծանոթ լինելով եվրոպական կրթական ավանդույթներին ու սկզբունքներին` Արեւմտյան Հայաստանում մեծ վերելք է ապրել մարզական կյանքը: Բավական է ասել, որ Կոստանդնուպոլսից Վան, Տրապիզոնից Ադանա հայկական տասնյակ մարզական ակումբներ ու սկաուտական կազմակերպություններ էին ի հայտ եկել:  

Օլիմպիական խաղերին Օսմանյան կայսրության մասնակցության պատմության մեջ առաջին անգամ երկու հայ մարզիկներ` Վահան Փափազյանն ու Մկրտիչ Մկրյանը, Ստոկհոլմի 1912 թ. հինգերորդ միջազգային օլիմպիական խաղերում ներկայացրեցին Օսմանյան Թուրքիան: Շատ հայկական թիմեր ու անհատներ պարբերաբար հաղթանակներ էին տանում և ռեկորդներ սահմանում տեղական ու միջազգային մրցաշարերում: 
1911-1914 թթ. անցկացվեցին չորս «Հայկական օլիմպիական խաղեր»` մասնակցությամբ բոլոր հայկական մարզական ակումբների: Մրցույթների հաղթողները պարգևատրվեցին արծաթե մեդալներով:  Հայկական առանձին ֆուտբոլային լիգայի ստեղծման գաղափարը չիրագործվեց Առաջին համաշխարհային պատերազմի և այդ ընթացքում հայերի դեմ իրագործված ցեղասպանության պատճառով, որի ընթացքում հայ մարզիկները եւս զոհ գնացին 20-րդ դարի առաջին ցեղասպանությանը:
