 ԱՄՆ Հայ դատի հանձնախմբի գործադիր տնօրեն Արամ Համբարյանն անդրադարձել է Հայոց ցեղասպանության 102-րդ տարելիցի կապակցությամբ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի հայտարարությանը, որում վերջինս հրաժարվել է կիրառել «ցեղասպանություն» տերմինը:  

«Նախագահ Թրամփը Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը դատապարտելու և հիշատակելու ամերիկյան քաղաքականության փոխարեն որոշել է կիրառել Անկարայի` «բերանը փակելու» քաղաքականությունը: Չկարողանալով պատշաճ կերպով հարգել զոհերի հիշատակն ապրիլի 24-ին՝ Թրամփը փաստորեն ցեղասպանությունների կանխմանն ուղղված ԱՄՆ քաղաքականությունը հանձնեց Ռեջեփ Էրդողանի ձեռքը՝ մեծամիտ ու ավտորիտար բռնապետի, ով հրապարակավ ոլորում է ԱՄՆ նախագահների ձեռքերը` ստիպելով լռել միլիոնավոր հայերի, հույների, ասորիների ու Թուրքիայի մյուս քրիստոնյաների զանգվածային սպանությունների մասին»,- հայտարարել է Համբարյանը:

Իր ուղերձում ԱՄՆ նախագահը նշել է. «Այսօր մենք հիշում և ոգեկոչում ենք 20-րդ դարի վատթարագույն զանգվածային վայրագություններից մեկի՝ Մեծ Եղեռնի տառապանքների բովով անցածներին:

 1915թ. սկսած՝ Օսմանյան կայսրության վերջին տարիների ընթացքում, մեկ ու կես միլիոն հայեր զոհ են գնացել տեղահանություններին, կոտորածներին ու մահվան երթերին: Ես միանում եմ Ամերիկայի հայկական համայնքին և աշխարհասփյուռ հայությանը՝ սգալու կորսված մարդկային անմեղ կյանքերի ու կրած բազում տառապանքների վիշտը:

Մտորելով մարդկային պատմության այս մռայլ դրվագի շուրջ՝ մենք նաև արժանին ենք մատուցում հայ ժողովրդի աննկուն ոգուն: Շատերը նոր կյանք կերտեցին Միացյալ Նահանգներում և իրենց անջնջելի ներդրումն ունեցան մեր երկրում՝ իրենց սրտում վառ պահելով հիշողությունները պատմական հայրենիքի մասին, որտեղ նրանց նախնիները կերտել էին հնագույն հզոր քաղաքակրթություններից մեկը:

Մենք պետք է հիշենք վայրագությունները, որպեսզի թույլ չտանք դրանց կրկնությունը: Մենք ողջունում ենք ցավալի անցյալի փաստերն ընդունելու ու դրանց հետ հաշվի նստելու ջանքերը, որ ձեռնարկվում են հայերի ու թուրքերի կողմից՝ որպես առավել արդարացի ու հանդուրժողական ապագայի համար հիմքեր նախապատրաստելու հույժ կարևոր քայլ»:
