Արցախյան պատերազմում կանայք բավական մեծ դերակատարություն են ունեցել: «Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ, Կին ազատամարտիկների միության նախագահ, գնդապետ Աիդա Սերոբյանը նշեց, որ պատերազմի ժամանակ կանայք տղամարդկանց հավասար կռվել են: «Արցախյան պատերազմին 300-ից ավելի կանայք են մասնակցել: Մարտնչող կանանց կողք ին նույնիսկ ամենավախկոտ տղամարդն առյուծ էր կտրում»,- ասաց Սերոբյանը՝ վստահեցնելով, որ կանայք տղամարդկանց պետք են եւ խաղաղ, եւ պատերազմական իրավիճակներում:
«Շուշին այնքան անառիկ էր, որ մենք չէինք պատկերացնում, որ կարող ենք գրավել այն: Մի քանի անգամ Շուշիի ազատագրումը հետաձգելուց հետո մեզ վերջապես հաջողվեց 26 ժամվա ընթացքում ազատագրել այն»,-ասաց նա: Աիդա Սերոբյանը հիշում է, թե ինչպես էին ոգեւորվել բոլորը: «Մենք թվով բավական քիչ էինք, բայց կարողացանք համեմատաբար քիչ զոհեր ունենալ: Մենք հատկապես ոգեւորեցինք, երբ Շուշիի եկեղեցուց հանում էին հակառակորդի արկերը»,-հավելեց բանախոսը:
Շուշիի ազատագրումը հայկական ռազմական ուժերի առաջին նշանակալից հաղթանակն էր Արցախյան ազատամարտում: Ճակատամարտը տեղի է ունեցել 1992 թ. մայիսի 8-ին ռազմավարական կարևոր Շուշի լեռնաքաղաքում։
