Հայոց հոգևոր մայրաքաղաքի՝ Էջմիածնի 2700 ամյակին նվիրված տոնակատարությունների մեկնարկը տրվեց Վազգեն Սարգսյանի անվան հրապարակում սպարապետ Վազգեն Սարգսյանի հուշարձանի բացմամբ: «Արմենպրես»-ի հետ զրույցում Էջմիածնի քաղաքապետ Կարեն Գրիգորյանն ասաց, որ Էջմիածնի ամենաերկար փողոցում սպարապետի հուշարձանը բացելու գաղափար վաղուց կար, և ուրախ է, որ հուշարձանը բացվում է հենց Էջմիածնի տոնի կապակցությամբ:

Վազգեն Սարգսյանի եղբոր՝ Արամ Սարգսյանի համար հուշարձանի բացման լուրն անակնկալ չէր, սակայն խոստովանում է, որ հպարտության զգացում է ապրել՝ այցելելով Վ. Սարգսյանի անվան հրապարակ: «Շատ հաճելի է, որ այսուհետ Էջմիածինն էլ կունենա Վազգեն Սարգսյանի կիսանդրին: Մարդկային կյանքերն արված գործերով են նշանավորվում, և մարդու բացակայությունը չի նշանակում, որ նա գոյություն չունի: Վազգենը կա և կշարունակի մնալ հայ ժողովրդի հիշողության մեջ»,- նշել է նա:

Էջմիածնի տոնի առիթով քաղաք այցելած ՀՀ Նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը ևս ծաղկեփունջ է դրել Վազգեն Սարգսյանի հուշարձանին, որը բացվեց Արմավիրի թեմի առաջնորդ Սիոն եպիսկոպոս Ադամյանի օրհնությամբ: Նախագահի և Էջմիածնի հյուրերի հաջորդ կանգառը քաղաքի ծայրամասում գտնվող սպորտային համալիրի տարածքն էր, որտեղ կատարվեց հիմնարկեքի արարողություն:

Կարեն Գրիգորյանի փոխանցմամբ՝ նոր մարզահամալիրը նախագահի նվերն է էջմիածինցիներին: Այն դառնալու է ոչ միայն Էջմիածնի, այլև հարակից գյուղերի շատ պատանիների ամենասիրելի վայրը: Մարզադպրոցը, որի բացումը կկայանա հաջորդ տարի, կունենա լողավազան, մարզադահլիճ, ֆուտբոլի մարզադաշտ, ըմբշամարտի, ծանրամարտի, սեղանի թենիսի, շախմատի սպորտաձևերի համար նախատեսված տարածքներ: Ավելի ուշ քաղաքապետարանի շենքում կայացած հանդիսավոր արարողության ժամանակ ելույթներ ունեցան Էջմիածնի քույր քաղաքներից ժամանած պատվավոր հյուրերը:
