Բոլորն են դեռ հիշում, թե ինչ տեղի ունեցավ, երբ Էրդողանի պաշտոնական այցի դեմ բողոքի ակցիա կազմակերպեցին ԱՄՆ մի շարք համայնքներ, այդ թվում՝ հայերը։ Սակայն նրանց հանդեպ կիրառած բռնությունների մասին չենք խոսի։

Էրդողանը Պեկինից մեկնել էր Վաշինգտոն՝ հանդիպելու ԱՄՆ նախագահի հետ, թուրք-ամերիկյան լարված հարաբերությունների մի շարք հարցերի փաթեթով։ Այդ հարաբերությունների օրակարգում են քրդերին զինելու խնդիրը, սիրիական ճգնաժամը, Գյուլենին արտահանձնելու խնդիրը, Իրաքը, Յեմենը, Լիբիան, ՆԱՏՕ-ի ապագան, Իսլամական պետությունն ու ահաբեկչությունը, Մերձավոր Արևելքը, Թուրքիայում վերջին հեղաշրջման փորձն ու դրանում ամերիկյան հետքը, փախստականների խնդիրը և այլն։ Եվ այս ամենի համար Թրամփը Էրդողանին տրամադրել է ընդամենը 21 րոպե։
Թրամփի էքսցենտրիկ կերպարին շատ են անդրադարձել ու քննարկել։ Ընդհանրապես, նույնիսկ նորմալ կդիտվեր, եթե այդ հանդիպումը տևեր մեկ րոպե, կամ Թրամփն էրդողանին դիմավորեր այնպես, ինչպես Դալին՝ Խաչատրյանին։

Բայց 21 րոպեն էլ քիչ ժամանակ չէ, հասկանալու համար, թե ինչպես է ԱՄՆ առաջին դեմքը վերաբերվում Թուրքիայի հետ հարաբերություններին։ Գաղտնիք չէ, որ օգտագործելով սիրիական ճգնաժամը, Էրդողանը շատ դեպքերում Վաշինգոնի հույսով հակադրվում էր Եվրոպային։ Բայց մեկ անգամ չէ, որ արևմտյան վերլուծաբաններն ու տեսաբանները խոսել են արևելքում շերիֆի հնարավոր փոփոխության մասին։ Այս դեպքում, բնական է, որ Էրդողանի ագրեսիվ վարքը, հատկապես Եվրոպայի նկատմամաբ, կարող է այդքան էլ գովական չլինել Վաշինգտոնի կողմից։ Ինչ խոսք, ԱՄՆ-ն միշտ էլ հակադրել ու խաղացել է Եվրոպա-Թուրքիա հակասությունների վրա։ Սակայն այս դեպքում, Եվրոպայում աճող իսլամական սպառնալիքը, Թուրքիայի վարած արտաքին ագրեսիվ քաղաքականությունը և այլ գործոններ, կարող են ազդել ԱՄՆ-ի սիրահոժար քաղաքականության վրա։ Էրդողանին սառն ընդունելով, ամերիկյան վարչակարգը կարծես հենց սա է հասկացնում։
