Բուրավետ մոմերն ամբողջովին փոխում են տան մթնոլորտը ու հաճախ են բարձրացնում տրամադրությունը, սակայն առողջության համար դրանք, պարզվում է, այդքան էլ անվնաս չեն։ San Diego State University-ի հետոզոտողները պատմել են, թե ինչ վտանգներ են թաքցնում նման մոմերը։

Մասնագետների խոսքով, բուրավետ մոմերը ու օդը թարմացնող միջոցներն իրականում ոչ թե մաքրում, այլ հակառակը՝ աղտոտում են օդը՝ դրանք օդը լցնում են փոշով ու սնկերով, որոնք կարող են ներթափանցել թոքերի մեջ ու մի շարք խնդիրներ առաջացնել։

Գիտնականները ուսումնասիրել են զանազան գործոններ, որոնք իրենց դերակատարումն ունեն տներում օդի աղտոտման հարցում։ Իրենց հետազոտությանը նրանք ներգրավել են գրեթե 300 ընտանիքներ, որոնք բնակվում են Սան Դիեգոյում ու ունեն 14 տարեկան կամ ավելի փոքր առնվազն մեկ երեխա, նաեւ մեկ ծխող անդամ։

Ինչպես եւ ակնկալվում էր, ամենավտանգավոր գործոններից մեկը ծխախոտի ծուխն է, որը ամենամեծ սպառնալիքն է ներկայացնում տան անդամների առողջության համար։ Սակայն, ի զարմանս գիտնականների, նորաձեւ բուրավետ մոմերն ու օդը թարմացնող միջոցները նույնպես բացասաբար են ազդում օդի վրա ու ավելացնում են ռիսկերը տան բնակիչների առողջության համար։

Գիտնականները մի քանի մոնիտորներ են տեղադրել յուրաքանչյուր տանը՝ բարակ դիսպերսային մասնիկների քանակը պարզելու համար, ու առաջին մոնիտորը գտնվում էր տան այն մասում, որը ամենամոտն է ծխելու սենյակից, իսկ երկրորդը՝ մանկական ննջասենյակում։ Տվյալ հաղորդիչները մշտապես սկանավորում էին օդը՝ 0․5-ից 2․5 միկրոմետր չափերով բարակ դիսպերսային մասնիկների առկայությունը պարզելու համար։ Այդ կատեգորիայում են փոշին, կեղտը, սնկերի սպորները, ավտամոբիլային արտանետիչ գազերն ու այրման կողմնակի արտադրանքները։ Մասնիկների այդ չափսը վտանգավոր է մարդու առողջության համար, քանի որ դրանք կարող են ներթափանցել թոքեր, որտեղ առաջացնում են մի շարք բարդացումներ առողջության համար, այդ թվում  շնչառական համակարգի խանգարումներ ու սրտանոթային խնդիրներ։

Օդի վիճակի գնահատումը տեւել են երեք ամիս ու մոնիտորները դիտարկվող տներից մշտապես տեղեկություններ են փոխանցել հետազոտողների համակարգիչներին։ Պարզվել է, որ տներում օդի հիմնական աղտոտիչը ծխախոտի ծուխն է, սակայն բուրավետ մոմերն ու սննդի պատրաստման ընթացքում օդի մեջ հայտնվող ճարպային մասնիկները, նաեւ օդը թարմացնող միջոցները նույնպես ավելացնում էին օդի բարակ դիսպերսային մասնիկների քանակը։ Փորձագետների կարծիքով մարդիկ պետք է հրաժարվեն փակ տարածություններում բուրավետ մոմեր օգտագործելուց, քանի որ դրանք վտանգավոր են առողջության համար։
