Դոնալդ Թրամփի այցը Բրյուսել և նրա հանդիպումները ԵՄ և ՆԱՏՕ ղեկավարության հետ ցույց տվեցին և վերահաստատեցին այն պնդումները, որ Թրամփի նախագահությունը առնվազն փորձ է անում ֆունդամենտալ փոփոխություններ մտցնել ԱՄՆ արտաքին քաղաքականության մեջ։ ԱՄՆ նախորդ վարչակազմերի և քաղաքական էսթաբլիշմենթի ավանդական արտաքին քաղաքականության փոփոխությունը արտահայտվում է Ռուսաստանի հետ «Թրամփին հատուկ» հարաբերությունների ձևավորմամբ։ ԵՄ-ի հետ հարաբերությունների «լարումը» երևաց ղեկավարության հետ հանդիպումների ժամանակ, երբ սովորաբար ԱՄՆ-ն և ԵՄ-ն տարաձայնություններ չեն ունեցել, հանիպումից հետո Եվրախորհուրդի նախագահ Դոնալդ Տուսկը հայտարարեց որոշակի տարաձայնությունների մասին։ Առանձնապես ջերմ չէր Ֆրանսիայի նոընտիր նախագահ Էմանուել Մակրոնի հետ հանդիպումը։ ՆԱՏՕ-ն ցանկալի ձևակերպմամբ չստացավ, վերջինիդ կանոնադրության՝ Article 5-ի գործարկման մասին ԱՄՆ-ի վերահաստատումը փոխարենը հստակ պահանջ ներկայացվեց դաշինքի անդամ պետություններին հավասարապես կիսել ֆինանսական բեռը։ Այս տարակարծությունները որոնք բնորոշ չեն ռազմավարական նշանակության հարաբերություններ ունեցող կողմերին ցուցիչ են այն բանի՝ որ ԱՄՆ-ԵՄ, ՆԱՏՕ հարաբերությունները տրանսֆորմացվում են։
