Մասնագետները բացահայտել են, որ ովորական խնձորը կարող է փչացնել ատամները: Մասնագետների խոսքով, խնձորի հասցրած վնասը չորս անգամ ավելի է, քան գազավորված հյութերինը:Նրանք հավելում են նաև, որ գինին և բաց գարեջուրը նույնպես փչացնում են ատամները:
Խնդիրը այն չէ, թե ինչ ենք մենք ուտում, այլ այն, թե ինչպես ենք ուտում: Մասնագետները պնդում են, որ երբ մարդը դանդաղ է ուտում խնձորը, թթվի բարձր մակարդակը հասցնում է վնասել ատամները:
Այս եզրակացությանը մասնագետները եկել են 18-30 տարեկան ավելի քան 1000 մարդկանց շրջանում հետազոտություն անցկացնելուց հետո: Հետազոտության արդյունքում պարզվել է, որ խնձոր սիրողների մոտ էմալի և ատամոսկրի վնասման հավանականությունը 3.7 անգամ ավել է գազային ըմպելիքի սիրահարների համեմատ:
Մասնագետները պնդում են նաև, որ մրգային հյութերը 4 անգամ ավելի հաճախ են վնասում ատամի էմալը, քան բաց գարեջուրը: Մասնագետները խնձորի սիրահարներին հետևյալ լուծումն են առաջարկում. խնձոր ուտել մի կտոր պանրի հետ: Կալցիումը չեզոքացնում է թթուն:
