Մասնագետներն ահազանգում են, որ ներկայում անպտղություն է գրացվում ամեն 8-10-րդ զույգի մոտ: Երեխա ունենալու անկարողությունն ընտանիքում առաջացնում է հոգեբանական լարված դրություն, շատ անգամ դառնալով բաժանության պատճառ: Մեծ Բրիտանիայում` 2000 կանանց շրջանում անցկացված հարցումը ցույց է տվել, որ շատ ընտանեկան զույգեր անտեղյակ են անգամ պարզ խորհուրդներից, որոնց կիրառումը թույլ կտա մեծացնել հղիանալու հավանականությունը: Ուսումնասիրության արդյունքում պարզվել է, որ շատերն անօգուտ փորձեր են ձեռնարկել հղիանալու նպատակով, քանի որ նրանց երկու երրորդը ալկոհոլ է օգտագործել, իսկ մյուսները ծխել են: Յուրաքանչյուր երրորդ կինը կամ նրա զուգընկերն ունեցել են նորմայից ավելի քաշ: Ամեն տասը զույգերից երեքը, որոնք ցանկացել են երջանկանալ` զգալով մայրության և հայրության բերկրանքը, կամ կինը, կամ էլ տղամարդը, օգտագործել են թմրամիջոցներ: Հղիանալ ցանկացող հարցված կանանցից միայն 44%-ն է փորձել պահպանելու առողջ ապրելակերպ: Հարցվածների 70%-ը նշել է, որ կարծում են, թե չափազանց մեծ տարիքային հասակի են, որպեսզի կարողանան երեխա ունենալ, և դրա պատճառով էլ առանձնապես չեն ջանում լուծելու անպտղության խնդիրը:   Կանանց մի խումբ էլ նշել են, որ երիտասարդ տարիներին օգտագործել են տարբեր մեթոդներ, այդ թվում և որոշ դեղամիջոցներ,, որպեսզի կանխեն հնարավոր հղիությունը: Մասնագետները խորհուրդ են տալիս հղիանալ մինչև 30 տարեկանը, որովհետև արդեն 35 տարեկանում հղիանալու հավանականությունը նվազում է 2, իսկ 40 տարեկանում` չորս անգամ:
