Ազգային ժողովի ՀՀԿ խմբակցության պատգամավոր, ՀՀ նախկին գլխավոր դատախազ Գևորգ Կոստանյանն անդրադարձել է 2008թ. մարտի 1-ի իրադարձությունների քրեական գործերի քննության ընթացքին: Ազգային ժողովում լրագրողների հետ զրույցում Կոստանյանը հիշեցրեց, որ մինչ իր պաշտոնավարումը այդ գործերն ամբողջական մեկ քրգործի շրջանակում էին քննվում, իսկ դա պատճառ էր անարդյունավետ քննության: «Հետո իմ հանձնարարությամբ, որպեսզի յուրաքանչյուր մահվան կապակցությամբ ավելի արդյունավետ քննություն իրականացնենք, գործը 10 մասերի առանձնացրեցինք՝ յուրաքանչյուրն առանձին գործով: Ինչո՞ւ, որպեսզի դա հնարավորություն տա նաև քննիչին, իրավահաջորդների ներկայացուցիչներին, փաստաբաններին և իրավապաշտպաններին ավելի առարկայական պատկերացնել, թե գործը քննության որ փուլում է, ինչ հետևանքներ կան և յուրաքանչյուր քննիչի որոշում, որը ոչ արդյունավետ են համարում, կարողանան սահմանված կարգով բողոքարկել», - «Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ՝ ասաց Կոստանյանը:
Նա նշեց, որ մարտի 1-ի գործը արհեստական չի ձգձգվում, այլ պատճառն այն է, որ շատ հանգամանքներ անհայտ են և բացահայտման կարիք ունեն: «Այն հանգամանքը, որ այդ քրգործերը չեն կասեցվում, նշանակում է՝ այդ քրեական գործերով բազմաթիվ անելիքներ կան: Եթե քրեական գործով մեղադրյալ չի կարողացել հայտնաբերվել, բայց գործը կարճելու հիմքեր էլ չկան, գործը կասեցվում է: Քննիչն իր պատկերացմամբ բոլոր քննչական գործողությունները կատարում է, բայց արդյունքի չի հասնում, հետևաբար գործը կասեցվում է: Այն հանգամանքը, որ մարտի 1-ի քրգործը քննիչի կողմից կասեցված չէ, նշանակում է, որ դեռևս քննիչը և դատախազը գտնում են, որ այդ քրեական գործերով քննչական գործողությունների անհրաժեշտություն կա», - եզրափակեց Կոստանյանը:
