Բոլորն էլ իրենց տանը կամ այգում սիրում են փոփոխություններ անել։ Սակայն 1850 թվականին մի շոտլանդացի ֆերմերի համար այգում փոփոխություն անելը ոչ թե զուտ էսթետիկ բնույթ կրեց, այլ նաև փոխեց բոլորի՝ Շոտլանդիայի պատմության մասին ունեցած պատկերացումները։
Ֆերմերն ընդամենը տեղաշարժեց մեծ սալաքարը, ինչի շնորհիվ հայտնաբերվեց ստորգետնյա մի հսկայական քաղաք, որը, պարզվեց, Սքարա Բրաեն է՝ դարեր շարունակ անհետացած համարվող բրիտանական քաղաքը։
Սալաքարի տեղափոխումից հետո նա մեծ անցք գտավ, ապա, մտնելով այնտեղ, շարունակեց քայլել այնքան, մինչ հասկացավ, թե ինչ արժեքավոր ու պատմական վայրում է գտնվում։ Քաղաքը, որը 5000-ամյա պատմություն ունի, ավելի հին է, քան եգիպտական բուրգերը։
Ցավոք, ստորգետնյա քաղաքի մի մասը վնասվել էր, և ընդամենը 8 տուն էր կանգուն մնացել։ Հնէաբաններն այժմ ուսումնասիրում են Սքարա Բրաե քաղաքը և կարծում են, որ այն Մեծ Բրիտանիայում երբևէ հայտնաբերված ամենահին բնակավայրն է, ուր 50-100 մարդ է ապրել։ Յուրաքանչյուր տուն մյուսի հետ գաղտնի թունելով կապված է, ինչպես նաև բոլոր տներում ջուր հավաքելու մեծ ամաններ կան։ Մասնագետները կարծում են, որ այստեղ ապրողների հիմնական սնունդը ծովամթերքն է եղել, մասնավորապես՝ ձկները, որոնց կենդանի վիճակում պահել են ջրի այդ ամաններում։
