Գերմանիայի արտաքին գործերի նախարար Զիգմար Գաբրիելը Գերմանիայի թուրք քաղաքացիներին ուղղված նամակում, որը տպագրվել է գերմանական Bild թերթում, նշել է, որ Գերմանիան վերանայելու և փոխելու է Թուրքիայի հետ տարվող քաղաքականությունը: «Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ՝ Bild թերթում թուրքերենով լույս տեսած նամակում Զիգմար Գաբրիելը, դիմելով Գերմանիայի թուրք քաղաքացիներին, նշել է. «Սիրելի թուրք հայրենակիցներ, ողջ դաշնային կառավարության անունից դիմում եմ ձեզ: Թուրքիայի հետ ունեցած մեր հարաբերությունները ներկայումս գտնվում են չափազանց ճգնաժամային և դժվար փուլում, այդ ամենը հատկապես զգում եք դուք: Ձեր հայրենիքը Գերմանիան է, բայց ձեզնից շատերի համար նաև Թուրքիան: Այդ իսկ պատճառով, ձեզ ցանկանում եմ ասել, որ թուրք-գերմանական հարաբերությունները շատ կարևոր են, լավ հարաբերություններ ունենալու համար մենք մշտապես ջանքեր ենք գործադրել, քանի որ գիտենք, որ թուրք-գերմանական հարաբերությունների լավ լինելը ձեզ համար չափազանց կարևոր է»:

Գերմանիայի արտգործնախարարը նշել է նաև, որ հակառակ այդ ամենին Թուրքիայում ձերբակալում են Գերմանիայի անմեղ քաղաքացիների, և Գերմանիան, որպես կառավարություն, չի կարող հանդիսատեսի դերում հետևել և քայլեր չձեռնարկել իր քաղաքացիներին պաշտպանելու ուղղությամբ:

«Մենք չենք կարող պարզապես հետևել, թե ինչպես են Թուրքիայում ձերբակալում մեր անմեղ քաղաքացիներին: Մենք պարտավոր ենք պաշտպանել մեր քաղաքացիներին»,- հավելել է նա:

«Մեր համագործակցությունը, մասնավորապես Թուրքիային ցուցաբերվող տնտեսական օգնության հարցում, կրկին կվերանայենք և կփորձենք հանդես գալ Եվրոպայի հստակ դիրքորոշումն արտահայտող նախաձեռնություններով»,-ասել է Զիգմար Գաբրիելը:

Նա նամակում նշել է նաև, որ Թուրքիայի հետ տարվող քաղաքականության վերանայումը առհասարակ ուղղված չէ թուրքական արմատներ ունեցող Գերմանիայի քաղաքացիների դեմ:

Գերմանիան Թուրքիայի դեսպան Ալի Քեմալ Այդընին հուլիսի 19-ին կանչել էր արտաքին գործերի նախարարություն և բողոքի նոտա հղել պաշտոնական Անկարային՝ կապված Ստամբուլում գերմանացի իրավապաշտպան Պետեր Ստոյդթներին ձերբակալելու, ապա նաև կալանավորելու հետ: Գերմանիայի արտաքին գործերի նախարարության խոսնակ Մարտին Շեֆերը հայտնել է, որ դեսպանին պարզ լեզվով ասել են, որ առանց ժամանակ կորցնելու թուրքական կողմն ազատ արձակի Գերմանիայի քաղաքացի Ստոյդթներին:

Թուրքիայի արտաքին գործերի նախարարությունը հանդես էր եկել պատասխան հայտարարությամբ՝ մեղադրելով Գերմանիայի կառավարությանը իր երկրի ներքին գործերին ու դատական համակարգին միջամտելու մեջ:

Գերմանիայի արտգործնախարար Զիգմար Գաբրիելը իրավապաշտպանի կալանավորումից հետո կիսատ է թողել արձակուրդն ու վերադարձել է Բեռլին:
