ՄԱԿ-ի կառույցները Հայաստանը գնահատել են որպես սեռով պայմանավորված հղիության արհեստական ընդհատման խնդրի լուծման գործում մեծ ջանքեր գործադրած և արագ առաջընթաց արձանագրած երկիր։ Ինչպես «Արմենպրես»-ին տեղեկացրին առողջապահության նախարարությունից,  վերջին տարիներին մեր հանրապետությունում նկատվում է սեռով պայմանավորված հղիության արհեստական ընդհատումների թվի նվազում։ Եթե 2014-2015թթ. նորածինների սեռերի համամասնությունը մեզանում եղել է 100 աղջիկ-114 տղա, ապա 2016-ին այն կազմել է 100-112, իսկ 2017թ. առաջին կիսամյակում` 100-110։

Առաջին հայացքից կարող է թվալ, թե թվերի նման փոքր տարբերությանը հեշտությամբ կարելի է հասնել։ Սակայն, իրականում սա երկարատև աշխատանքների արդյունք է։

Սեռերի անհամամասնության խնդիրը Հայաստանում ի հայտ է եկել դեռևս 1990-ական թվականներին, իսկ 2008-2012թթ. այն, հասնելով վտանգավոր սահմանագծին, դարձել էր ժողովրդագրական հիմնահարց։

Դեռ տարիներ առաջ սեռերի անհամամասնության խնդիրը քննարկվել է Առողջապահության համաշխարհային կազմակերպության փորձագետների հետ։ Իրավիճակի շտկման նպատակով ՀՀ առողջապահության նախարարությունը մշակել է սեռով պայմանավորված հղիության արհեստական ընդհատման կանխարգելմանն ուղղված ծրագրեր, այդ թվում` օրենսդրական փոփոխություններ։2016թ. «Մարդու վերարտադրողական առողջության և վերարտադրողական իրավունքների մասին» ՀՀ օրենքում ամրագրվել է սեռով պայմանավորված հղիության ընդհատումների արգելքը։ Զուգահեռաբար իրականացվել են կրթական և հանրային իրազեկման լայնամասշտաբ աշխատանքներ։

Միաժամանակ շարունակվում է «Պտղի սեռով պայմանավորված հղիության արհեստական ընդհատումների կանխարգելման 2015-2017թթ. ծրագիրը», որում ընդգրկվել են նաև միջազգային կառույցներ («Մարդկային զարգացման միջազգային կենտրոն», «Փրկեցեք երեխաներին», «Վորլդ Վիժն») և տեղական հասարակական ու համայնքային կազմակերպություններ:
