ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը եւ Հարավային Կորեայի նախագահ Մուն Չժ Ինը հեռախոսազրույցի ընթացքում Հյուսիսային Կորեան «աճող սպառնալիք են համարել աշխարհի մեծ մասի համար»: Այս մասին հաղորդել Է Reuters-ը՝ վկայակոչելով Սպիտակ տան հայտարարությունը: Պետությունների ղեկավարները նաեւ ողջունել են Փենյանի նկատմամբ նոր պատժամիջոցներ սահմանելու բանաձեւի միաձայն ըդունումը ՄԱԿ-ի Անվտանգության խորհրդի կողմից:
«Երկու ղեկավարներն Էլ հավաստել են, որ Հյուսիսային Կորեան լուրջ եւ աճող ուղղակի սպառնալիք Է ստեղծում Միացյալ Նահանգների, Հարավային Կորեայի եւ Ճապոնիայի համար, ինչպես նաեւ ամբողջ աշխարհի երկրների մեծամասնության համար»,- հայտարարել Է Սպիտակ տունը: «Ղեկավարները պարտավորել են ամբողջությամբ կատարել բոլոր համապատասխան բանաձեւերը եւ միջազգային հանրակցությանը հորդորել անել դա»,- ասված Է հայտարարության մեջ:
Օգոստոսի 5-ին ՄԱԿ-ի Անվտանգության խորհուրդն ընդունել Է բանաձեւ, որը խստացնում Է ԿԺԴՀ-ի նկատմամբ սահմանված պատժամիջոցները: Այսուհետեւ Հյուսիսային Կորեային արգելված Է արտահանել ածուխ, երկաթ, կապար եւ ծովամթերքներ: ԿԺԴՀ-ի Արտաքին առեւտրի բանկի հաշիվները սառեցված են, հյուսիսկորեական ծովային նավերին, որոնք կխախտեն ՄԱԿ-ի բանաձեւերը, արգելված Է մուտքը բոլոր պետությունների նավահանգիստներ:
