Երբ Լիամը ծնվեց, բժիշկները հայտնեցին ծնողներին, որ նրանց որդին ամենաշատը վեց ամիս կապրի: Այս տարի լրացել է Լիամի 18 տարին: Բժիշկները համարում են, որ դա հնարավոր է դարձել նրա ծնողների անձնազոհ ջանքերի շնորհիվ:
Լիամի հիվանդությունը հայտնի է որպես Ունդինի ախտանիշ: Այս անվանումը կապված է հին ավանդության հետ: Ըստ այդ ավանդության՝ ջրահարսը անիծել է իրեն դավաճանած ասպետին՝ ասելով, որ նա կմահանա, երբ քնի:
Ունդինի ախտանիշով հիվանդ մարդիկ քնում են հատուկ ապարատին միացած վիճակում. առանց դրա նրանք պարզապես կխեղդվեն քնի մեջ:
Քնելուց առաջ Լիամին թոքերի արհեստական օդափոխության սարք են միացնում: Նույնիսկ քնած ժամանակ նրա շնչառությանը հետևում է ծնողներից մեկը՝ անհրաժեշտության դեպքում կանխելով սարքի հնարավոր խափանումը:
Լիամի խնդիրները դրանով չեն ավարտվում: Մանուկ հասակում նա հաղթահարել է քաղցկեղը և հիմա աղիների հետ կապված լուրջ խնդիր ունի:
Լիամը այժմ սովորում է դպրոցում և հաճույքով է ժամանակ անցկացնում հարազատների և ընկերների հետ: Դերբիշիր ընտանիքում շատ երեխաներ են մեծանում: Լիամը ունի ավագ եղբայր, երեք որդեգրած և երկու հարազատ քույրեր:
Ցավոք, մտավոր զարգացածությամբ Լիամը հետ է մնում իր տարեկիցներից. նա սիրում է նկարել և Լեգո խաղալիքներ հավաքել: Ծնողներին մտահոգում է նրա ապագան:
Լիամի ծնողների սերը և համառությունը զարմացնում է: Նրանք հպարտ են, որ տոնում են իրենց որդու 18-ամյակը և ուրախ են, որ այդ տարիների ընթացքում ջանք չեն խնայել որդուն օգնելու համար
