ՀՀ Ազգային ժողովի նախագահ Գալուստ Սահակյանը Ժնեւում հանդիպել է Սիրիայի խորհրդարանի ղեկավար Մուհամմադ Ջիհադ ալ-Լահամի հետ, ով իր երախտագիտությունն է հայտնել Հայաստանին իրենց կողքին լինելու համար: Ինչպես տեղեկացրին ՀՀ ԱԺ հասարակայնության և տեղեկատվության միջոցների հետ կապերի վարչությունից, հանդիպումը տեղի է ունեցել ՄիջխÕ �րհրդարանական միության 133-րդ վեհաժողովի շրջանակում:
Ողջունելով Սիրիայի խորհրդարանի ղեկավարին՝ ՀՀ Ազգային ժողովի նախագահը նշել է, որ Հայաստանը մեծ ցավ է ապրում Սիրիայում տեղի ունեցող իրադարձությունների առնչությամբ:
«Մենք Սիրիայի հետ ավելի քան բարեկամներ ենք: Մենք երբեք չենք մոռանում, որ Ցեղասպանությունից մազապուրծ եղած հայերին ջերմությամբ ընդունել են Սիրիայում եւ ապրելու համար անհրաժեշտ պայմաններ ապահովել»,-իր խոսքում նշել է Գալուստ Սահակյանը:
Խոսելով հայ-սիրիական խորհրդարանական փոխգործակցության մասին՝ ՀՀ խորհրդարանի ղեկավարը նշել է, որ ՀՀ Ազգային ժողովի պատգամավորները պարբերաբար այցելում են Սիրիա, տեղում ծանոթանում իրավիճակին եւ մանրամասն տեղեկություններ հաղորդում իրեն: Գալուստ Սահակյանը նկատել է նաեւ, որ թե Հայոց ցեղասպանության եւ թե աշխարհի մյուս ցեղասպանությունների լիարժեք դատապարտման բացակայության պատճառներից մեկն այն է, որ այսօր էլ աշխարհում առկա են ցեղասպանության հատկանիշներով պատերազմներ եւ այլ երեւույթներ:
Խոսելով Սիրիայի հետ բազմակողմ համագործակցության մասին՝ խորհրդարանի ղեկավար Գալուստ Սահակյանը վստահեցրել է, որ ՀՀ խորհրդարանականները բոլոր միջազգային հարթակներում կշարունակեն լինել եղբայրական Սիրիայի կողքին:

Մուհամմադ Ջիհադ ալ-Լահամը շնորհակալություն է հայտնել հանդիպման համար եւ նշել. «Ռուս-սիրիական դաշինքն արդեն լուրջ հաջողություններ է գրանցել: Շնորհակալ ենք մեր կողքին լինելու, մեզ աջակցելու համար եւ խնդրում եմ Սիրիայի Նախագահ Բաշար ալ-Ասադի շնորհակալությունը փոխանցել ՀՀ Նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանին»:
Խոսելով Միջխորհրդարանական միության վեհաժողովի աշխատանքների մասին՝ Սիրիայի խորհրդարանի ղեկավարը ցավով նշել է, որ միջազգային հանրության կողմից իրենց նկատմամբ կիրառվում են երկակի ստանդարտներ:
