Թուրինջի հյութը կարող է առողջության համար վտանգավոր լինել, իսկ որոշ դեղամիջոցների հետ համադրելու դեպքում, նույնիսկ մահացու: Բժիշկները կազմել եմ դեղորայքի մի ցանկ, որոնց հետ թուրինջի հյութի օգտագործումը կտրականապես արգելվում է:   Հարավարևմտյան Օնտարիոյի համալսարանի գիտնականները հրապարակել են մի հետազոտություն, որի համաձայն՝ գոյություն ունի 43 դեղամիջոց, որոնք թուրինջի հյութի հետ համատեղելու դեպքում կարող են առաջացնել առողջական լուրջ խնդիրներ: 2008 թվականին այդ ցանկում կար ընդամենը 17 դեղամիջոց, սակայն այժմ պարզվել է, որ բարդությունների հավանականությունը զգալիորեն ավելի բարձր է:   Հոդվածի հեղինակ Դևիդ Բեյլիի խոսքով՝ մահվան հավանականությունն այդքան էլ բարձր չէ, սակայն պետք չէ այն անտեսել: Բժիշկնեը պետք է իմանան և հայտնեն հիվանդներին, որ մի շարք նոր դեղամիջոցներ կարող են բացասաբար ազդել առողջության վրա:  Թուրինջի հյութում պարունակվում են ֆուրանոկումարիններ, որոնք խանգարում են դեղամիջոցների նորմալ լուծվելուն, բարձրացնում դրանց տոքսիկության մակարդակը և ազդում դրանց՝ օրգանիզմի վրա ունեցած ազդեցության վրա: Սա, իր հերթին, կարող է հանգեցնել գերդոզավորման կամ շատ ավելի լուրջ կողմնակի բարդությունների: Մասնավորապես՝ կարող են առաջանալ խնդիրներ սրտի հետ, երիկամային անբավարարություն, մկանների քայքայում, շնչառական խնդիրներ և  նույնիսկ թրոմբներ:   Ավելի վաղ ամերիկացի մի շարք քաղաքացիներ դիմել են բժշկի նման խնդիրների պատճառով, սակայն դեպքերի հստակ քանակը դեռ պարզ չի:   Մեկ թուրինջը կամ մի բաժակ թուրինջի հյութը կարող է մի օրվա ընթացքում ազդել օրգանիզմի վրա: Մյուս ցիտրուսայինները, ինչպիսիք են կիտրոնը, պոմելոն ու մանդարինը, կարող են նույն ազդեցությունն ունենալ: Բացարձակ անվնաս են միայն քաղցր նարինջների որոշ տեսակները:   Վտանգավոր ազդեցությունից խուսափելու համար գիտնականները խորհուրդ են տալիս ուշադիր կարդալ դեղորայքի հետ տրվող հրահանգները և խորհրդակցել բժշկի հետ:
