Ալերգիայի դասական սահմանման համաձայն` այն  իմունային համակարգի  գերզգայունությունն է, սակայն ավելի ճիշտ կլիներ ասել, որ ալերգիան իմունային համակարգի սխալ արձագանքն է արտաքին աշխարհի այնպիսի բնականոն երևույթներին, ինչպիսիք են` փոշին, ծաղիկների փոշին, ուտելիքը: Մեր առօրյայի անքակտելի մասը կազմող այս տարրական երևույթներն օրգանիզմի կողմից սկսում են ընկալվել որպես թշնամի: «Ո՞վ է մեղավոր այս ամենում» և «ինչպե՞ս պայքարել ալերգիայի դեմ»:  Այս հարցերի ուսումնասիրությամբ զբաղվում են բժիշկները, սակայն կան որոշ տարրական կանոններ, որոնց պահպանումը կարող է էապես թեթևացնել ալերգիայով տառապող մարդու առօրյան:

Ալերգիայի հարուցիչ գլխավոր գործոններից մեկը փոշին է, ուստի շատ կարևոր է նվազագույնի հասցնել տանը փոշու առկայությունը. վերացնել գորգերը, վարագույրը փոխարինել շերտավարագույրով, բրդով պատրաստված վերմակներն ու բարձերը փոխարինել սինթետիկայով, շաբաթական մեկ անգամ պարտադիր խոնավ մաքրություն անել տան մեջ:

Ալերգիկ ֆոնը մեղմելու համար շատ կարևոր է ճիշտ սնունդը: Ալերգիկ մարդու սննդակարգում պետք է գերակշռեն կաթնային մթերքները, հում բանջարեղենն ու մրգերը:

  1. Ալերգիկների համար ցանկալի է հաճախակի հանգստանալ ծովի ափին, քանի որ աղի ծովային ջուրն օգնում է մեղմել մաշկային ալերգիկ դրսևորումները, ծովային արևը սնուցում է մաշկը վիտամին D-ով:

Արդեն զարգացող ալերգիան գրեթե անբուժելի է, ցանկացած բուժում ուղղված է պարզապես սիմպտոմների վերացմանը և լավագույն արդյունքը կարող է լինել երկար տարիների ընթացքում այդ սիմպտոմների բացակայությունը, իսկ այդ լավագույն արդյունքին հասնելու համար հարկավոր է առաջին հերթին պարզել, թե որն է տվյալ ալերգիայի պատճառը և իսպառ վերացնել այն կամ նվազագույնի հասցնել այդ պատճառի հետ շփումը:

Կան նաև հակառակ մեթոդներ, օրինակ` թեթև ալերգիաների դեպքում հաճախակի խորհուրդ է տրվում տնային կենդանիներ պահել, սակայն այս մեթոդը հակացուցված է ալերգիայի ծանր դրսևորումների պարագայում:

Կան նաև ալերգիկ դրսևորումներ, որոնք զուտ նյարդային բնույթ են կրում, ինչպես` նեյրոդերմիտը կամ պսիխոմատիկ բրոնխիալ աստման, այս դեպքերում պետք է բուժել նյարդային համակարգը: Նման ալերգիաները, որպես կանոն, ի հայտ են գալիս սթրեսների ժամանակ:  Ալերգիայի դեղորայքային բուժումը  պետք է  նշանակվի բացառապես բժիշկների կողմից` ալերգոլոգի կամ մաշկաբանի:
