Շնանալու հաճույքը և դաժան պատիժները

Քրիստոնեական լեգենդը պատմում է, որ Մովսեսը Աստծուց ստացավ տաս պատվիրանները, որոնց մեջ կար այսպիսի մեկը՝ մի շնացիր։ Սակայն մարդկային բնույթը հիմնված է նաև ցանկասիրության վրա։ Հեշտ չէ մերժել օրգանիզմի հիմնավորված պահանջները, առավել ևս, եթե դրանք փոխադարձ են։ Սակայն տարբեր հասարակություններում, ամենադաժան պատիժներն են սահմանել ամուսնական դավաճանություն թույլ տվածների համար։ Որոշ երկրներում, այն նույնիսկ ավելի սարսափելի է համարվել, քան մարդ սպանելը։ Այսպես, ասորական օրենքներով, եթե ամուսինը կնոջը բռնացնում է դավաճանության պահին, կարող է տեղում սպանել և կնոջը, և սիրեկանին, իսկ եթե նա դա չէր անում, ապա գործը հանձնվում էր դատարան։ Իսկ դատարանում, ամուսինն իրավունք ուներ պահանջել ցանկացած պատիժ։

Հին Հնդակաստանում, Մանույի օրենքներով, ամուսնուն դավաճանող կանանց նետում էին սոված շների առաջ, այդպես էին վարվում նաև Պրուսսիայում։ Սաքսոնական օրենքներով, շնացողին՝ սիրուհու հետ մեկտեղ, ողջ-ողջ թաղում էին։ Հետաքրքիր է, որ դաժանությամբ հայտնի հին Չինաստանում, այս փաստին վերաբերվում էին բավականին լիբերալ կերպով։ Նրանց ընդամենը պարտադրում էին կես տարի կատարել հարկադիր աշխատանք։ Սակայն ավելի դաժան էր իսլամական միջավայրում։ Օմար խալիֆը երդվեց, որ անձամբ Մուհամմեդի շուրթերից է լսել այն մասին, որ շնացողներին պետք է քարերով սպանել։
