Ներկայում Հայաստանի դուրս գալը ԵՏՄ–ից երկրի արտաքին քաղաքականության առաջնահերթություններից չէ։ Նման կարծիք է հայտնել Հայաստանի Հանրապետական կուսակցության փոխնախագահ, ՀՀ խորհրդարանի արտաքին գործերի մշտական հանձնաժողովի ղեկավար Արմեն Աշոտյանը։ Աշոտյանի հայտարարությունն առաջին հայացքից հակադարձում է ԵԼՔ–ի նախաձեռնությանը, սակայն միայն առաջին հայացքից:
Աշոտյանը չի պնդում, թե ԵՏՄ–ից դուրս գալը չկա օրակարգում, ուղղակի այն առաջնահերթություն չէ, ներկայում:

Այսինքն՝ կարող է ինչ–որ պահի լինել նաև առաջնահերթություն:Այս իմաստով «ԵԼՔ»–ի նախաձեռնությունը իշխանության քաղաքական ծրագրերում տեղավորվում է և նրանք փորձելու են դրանից տեղեկատվական և դիվանագիտական դիվիդենտներ քաղել: Սա չի նշանակում, թե «ԵԼՔ»–ի նախաձեռնությունը կընդունվի ԱԺ–ում: Ոչ էլ նշանակում է, որ «ԵԼՔ»–ի նախաձեռնությունը անմիջապես իջեցվել է Բաղրամյան 26–ից:

Արմեն Աշոտյանն այն հանրապետականներից է, ովքեր սովորաբար պատահական ու սեփական կարծիք չեն արտահայտում: Եվ այս իմաստով պատգամավորի խոսքը հետաքրքիր ու բազմաշերտ է մեսիջների առումով: Մի կողմից ռուսական կողմին զգուշացնելով, մյուս կողմից ՝ հանգստացնելով, հայկական կողմը խաղում է ռուսական կողմի հետ ՝ ռուսական անընդհատ ճնշման տակից մասամբ դուրս գալու և երկրի ներքաղաքական հարցերում ինքնուրույնություն ձեռք բերելու համար:

Այս ամենը տեղավորվում է Սարգսյանի ճեղքման պլանի մեջ ՝ ստեղծել իմիտացիա, որ Հայաստանում կա հակառուսական տրամադրություն և ցույց տալ, որ միայն Սարգսյանը կարող է իրավիճակը փրկել:
