Չբացահայտված թռչող օբյեկտը (ՉԹՕ), երկնքում հանդիպող անսովոր մարմին է, որը դիտորդի կողմից ճանաչելի չէ որպես մարդկությանը հայտնի որևէ առարկա։

Չնայած ՉԹՕ հապավումը վերաբերվում է ցանկացած անհայտ թռչող օբյեկտի, այն հաճախ որպես հոմանիշ է օգտագործվում օտար տիեզերանավի բնութագրելիս։ ՉԹՕ-ների կողմնակիցները առաջ են քաշում այն վարկածը, որ քանզի այս առարկաները տեխնիկական, այլ ոչ թե բնական երևույթ են, և տեսքով ու թռիչքի բնույթով անհայտ են գիտությանը, դրանք չեն կարող Երկիր մոլորակից լինել։ ՉԹՕ-ների վերաբերյալ հետաքրքությունը սկսվել է Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմից հետո՝ 1940-ականներին։ 1947-ին հունիսի 24-ին ամերիկացի օդաչու Քենեթ Առնոլդը Վաշինգտոնի մերձակայքում սարերի վրայով թռչելիս օդում տեսավ անասելի արագությամբ սլացող 9 տարօրինակ օբյեկտ, այդ օբյեկտներին նա նմանեցրեց ափսեների և այդտեղից էլ եկավ թռչող ափսե արտահայտությունը։ Նա առաջինն էր, որ հրապարակայնորեն խոսեց այդ մասին։ Նույն 1947 թվականին էր, երբ ամերիկյան Ռոուզվել քաղաքում ընկավ առաջին չճանաչված թռչող օբյեկտը‌, և հենց այդ ժամանակից ի վեր կառավարությունները սկսեցին ուսումնասիրել ՉԹՕ-ների մասին զեկույցներ, հաճախ զինվորական տեսանկյունից, և ՉԹՕ-ների հետազոտողները սկսեցին ուսումնասիրել, գրել, և նույնիսկ կազմակերպություններ ստեղծել, նվիրված ՉԹՕ-ներին։ Նման մի ուսումնասիրություն գրում է, որ Ռուսաստանի, նախկին Սովետական Միության երկրների և Չինաստանի իշխանությունները միասնական ջանքեր են գործադրել ՉԹՕ-ները հասկանալու համար։ Այս նույն հետազոտությունթ նաև նշում է, որ «մի քանի ինքնաթիռներ ոչնչացվել, և առնվազն չորս օդաչու մահացել են ՉԹՕ-ների հետևելիս»։ Լուրջ ուսումնասիրություններ նաև կատարվել են ԱՄՆ-ում, ԽՍՀՄ-ում, Մեծ Բրիտանիայում, Ֆրանսիայում և այլ հզոր երկրներում։

1973 թվականի հոկտեմբերի 18-ի կեսգիշերին օդաչու Լերի Քոյնը իր ուղղաթիռով անձնակամի մի քանի այլ անդամների հետ հերթական հերթապահությունն էր անում Օհայո նահանգի Մենսգիլդ քաղաքի մոտ և հանկարծ մեքենան պարուրվել է կարմիր լույսով։ Հետո ուղղաթիռի կողքին ևս կարմիր լույս է ճառագայթող մի առարկա է հայտնվում։ Քոյնը փորձում է փախցնել մեքենան, բայց ապարդյուն. առարկան շարունակում է սավառնել նրանց կողքին։ Հանկարծ խցիկը լցվում է կանաչ լույսով, և խորհրդավոր առարկան անձայն անհետանում է հեռվում։ Այդ պահին խափանվում է ընդունիչ սարքը, և ինչ-որ անհայտ ուժեր մեքենան ուղղակի վերև են շպրտում. օդաչուն դժվարությամբ է կարողանում վերականգնել մեքենայի կառավարումը։ Սա ՉԹՕ-ների հետ բազմաթիվ անբացատրելի հանդիպումներից մեկի նկարագրությունն է միայն։ Ենթադրում են, որ ՉԹՕ-ները տիեզերական ապարներ են, որոնցով տեխնիկապես մեզ գերազանցող անհայտ մոլորակի բնակիչներն այցելում են Երկիր: Սա բացատրելի է դարձնում թռիչքների զարմանալի վարպետությունը, ինչպես նաև դրանց խորհրդավոր հայտնվելն ու չքանալը. այլմոլորակայիններն ընդամենը ուզում են ուսումնասիրել մեզ, սակայն շփվել դեռ չեն ցանկանում։
