Ֆուտբոլի աշխարհի առաջնության B խմբի առաջին տուրում Եվրոպայի գործող չեմպիոն Պորտուգալիայի հավաքականը Սոչիի օլիմպիական մարզադաշտում մրցեց աշխարհի նախկին չեմպիոն Իսպանիայի հետ (3:3):

Հանդիպման մեկնարկը շատ բուռն ստացվեց: Իսպանիայի հավաքականի ֆուտբոլիստները սեփական տուգանային հրապարակում խախտեցին խաղի կանոնները Ռոնալդուի նկատմամբ և նշանակված 11 մետրանոց հարվածն անվրեպ իրացրեց նույն Ռոնալդուն: Իսպանիայի հավաքականը չնահանջեց սեփական տուգանային հրապարակը:

       

Եվ խաղի 24-րդ րոպեին, արագ հակագրոհի արդյունքում, Դիեգո Կոստան մի քանի պաշտպանի շրջանցելով՝ վերականգնեց հաշվի հավասարությունը՝ 1:1: Հանդիպման առաջին կեսի վերջնամասում արդեն հավասար պայքար էր ծավալվել, սակայն իսպանացիներն ավելի շատ էին տիրում գնդակին: Առաջին կեսի ավարտից 2 րոպե առաջ՝ կոպտագույն սխալ թույլ տվեց Իսպանիայի հավաքականի դարպասապահ Դավիդ դե Խեան, ով բաց թողեց Ռոնալդուի հարվածը: Թիմերը հանգստի գնացին 2:1 հաշվով հօգուտ Պորտուգալիայի:

  

Երկրորդ կեսը «կարմիր ֆուրիան» հրաշալի մեկնարկեցին և Դիեգո Կոստան ճիշտ ժամանակին, ճիշտ տեղում հայտնվելով՝ գնդակն ուղարկեց Պորտուգալիայի դարպասը՝ 2:2: Րոպեներ անց անհավանական գոլի հեղինակ դարձավ Իսպանիայի հավաքականի պաշտպան Նաչոն, ով ուժեղ, դիպուկ և հեռահար հարվածով առաջ մղեց Իսպանիային՝ 2:3: Բայց ոչ, Ռոնալդուն իր ձեռքը վերցրեց խաղը և 87-րդ րոպեին նշանակված տուգանային հարվածն գերազանց հարվածով եզրափակեց Ռոնալդուն՝ 3:3, իսկ պորտուգալացին դարձավ անև հեթ-տրիկի հեղինակ: 

   

Իսպանիայի ֆուտբոլի ազգային թիմի հաջորդ խաղը կկայանա հունիսի 20-ին, որտեղ կմրցեն Իրանի հետ: Պորտուգալիան հաջորդիվ կխաղա Մարոկկոյի հետ նույն օրը: B խմբում առաջին տուրից հետո 3 միավոր ունի Իրանի թիմը, իսկ Պորտուգալիան և Իսպանիան ունեն 1-ական միավոր:
