Մենք գիտենք, որ...

Այս նկարում սպարապետ Վարդան Մամիկոնյանն է՝ մեր ազգային հերոսը, Ավարայրի ճակատամարտում զոհված և Հայ առաքելական եկեղեցու կողմից սրբադասված։

Իրականում այդպես չէ։ Չէ, խոսքը Վարդան Մամիկոնյանին վերագրվող հերոսությունների մասին չէ, այլ նկարի:

Այսօր երևի շատերը չգիտեն, թե ինչպես է ստեղծվել մեր ազգային մեծ հերոսի առավել տարածված ու հայտնի այս դիմապատկերը: Այդ նկարի ստեղծման հակիրճ պատմությունն իր ժամանակին տվել է նշանավոր մանկավարժ, գրական– թատերական գործիչ Սեդրակ Մանդինյանը (1844–1915) իր «Վարդան Զորավարի պատկերը» վերտառությամբ հոդվածում։ Նա հոդվածում նշում է, որ «գրչագիրներում Վարդանի պատկերը քիչ է պատահում, այնտեղ նա նկատվում է միշտ չալմայով, սոսկական ոչ զինվորական հագուստով, չոքած կամ ծալապատիկ նստած, կարծես թե որպես աղոթյալ–աղոթող»: Իհարկե, ձեռագիր մատյաններում եղած մանրանկարների հիման վրա անիմաստ էր նշված տեսքով նկարել մեծ զորավարին:

Հաշվի առնելով այս ամենը` ազգային– պահպանողական անվանի գործիչ Կարապետ Եզյանը 1850–ականների վերջերին Մոսկվա ժամանած մի ֆրանսիացի նկարչի ծանոթացնում է Վարդան Մամիկոնյանի գործունեությանը և խնդրում նրան` ստեղծել սպարապետի իդեալական դիմանկարը: Անհայտ է մնացել ֆրանսիացի նկարչի ինքնությունը, այդ մասին լռել է նաև Ս. Մանդինյանը: Մի բան, սակայն, ակնհայտ է, որ նկարիչը Կ. Եզյանին խոստացել է ստեղծել սպարապետի պատկերը և շատ շուտով կատարել իր խոստումը: Նա վերոհիշյալ զրույցից հետո սկսում է ուսումնասիրել հայկական դիմագծերը և այդ նպատակով վերցնում է Նիկողայոս Ալադադյանի և Պետերբուրգի համալսարանի ուսանող, հետագայում` հասարակական գործիչ և «Հյուսիսափայլ» ամսագրի աշխատակից Մարտիրոս Սիմոնյանի լուսանկարները: Այսպիսով, Մ. Սիմոնյանի և Ն. Ալադադյանի լուսանկարները հիմք ընդունելով` ֆրանսիացի նկարիչը ստեղծում է Վարդան զորավարի պատկերը` «մի զինվոր հռովմեական տարազով, որպես իդեալական Վարդան, որ ձեռքին ունի ոչ թե մերկացրած սուր, այլ պատյանով մի դաշույն, որպես մի խորհրդանշան հավատով զինվորության»: Նկարիչն այս դիմանկարը հանձնում է Կ. Եզյանին, որը նորաստեղծ պատկերը բազմացնում և ուղարկում է թեմակալ առաջնորդներին, որպեսզի նրանք տարածեն ժողովրդի մեջ:

Արդեն դրանից հետո, հիմք ընդունելով այս անհայտ նկարչի նկարը, Գրիգոր Խանջյանը ստեղծել է «Վարդանանք» հանրահայտ և եզակի պատկերագորգը (գոբելեն), Հովհաննես Խաչատրյանը՝ Մատենադարանի շենքի սրահի «Ավարայրի ճակատամարտը» խճապատկեր որմնանկարը, Երվանդ Քոչարը՝ վեհաշուք արձանը` կանգնեցված Երևանի օղակաձև զբոսայգում, և այլ գեղանկարիչներ, քանդակագործներ ևս ստեղծել են նրա պատկերով ստեղծագործություններ:

Դե ինչ, ստիպված ենք հաշտվել այս իրողության հետ, հո չենք վերցնի ու փոխենք մեր բոլոր արձաններն ու նկարները, նաև հետ վերցնենք Սուրբ Վարդան Մամիկոնյան հուշամեդալները։ Համարենք, որ մեր ազգային հերոսին պլաստիկ վիրահատության են ենթարկել՝ տալով այդ տեսքը, քանի որ այն ժամանակ Հայաստանում բժշկությունը բարձր մակարդակի վրա էր՝ ինչպես մնացած ամեն ինչը։ Թեպետ, ի՞նչ իմանաս, գուցե հենց այդպիսին էլ եղել է...
