ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի վարչակազմն անցյալ տարվա ընթացքում գաղտնի հանդիպումներ է ունեցել Վենեսուելայի ապստամբ ռազմական հրամանատարների հետ՝ քննարկելու երկրի նախագահ Նիկոլաս Մադուրոյին տապալելու ծրարգրերը:
Ինչպես գրում է The New York Times-ը, այս տեղեկությունը հաղորդել են ամերիկացի պաշտոնատար անձինք և վենեսուելացի նախկին հրամանատարներից մեկը, որոնք մասնակցել են բանակցություններին:
Ինչպես նշում է աղբյուրը, Վենեսուելայում հեղափոխություն նախապատրաստողների հետ գաղտնի կապեր ստեղծելը Վաշինգտոնի համար մեծ խաղ էր՝ հաշվի առնելով Լատինական Ամերիկայում գաղտնի միջամտություններ կատարելու երկարամյա փորձը: Մինչ օրս էլ տարածաշրջանի մի շարք երկրներ, որոնցից են Կուբան, Նիկարագուան, Բրազիլիան, Չիլին, հանդիմանում են Միացյալ Նահանգներին իրենց երկրներում ապստամբներին և դավադիրրներին աջակցելու համար:
Սպիտակ տունը հրաժարվել է հստակ պատասխան տալ ապստամբների հետ բանակցելու մասին հարցին, սակայն հայտարարության մեջ նշել է, որ կարևոր է համարում երկխոսություն վարել բոլոր վենեսուելացիների հետ, որոնք «ժողովրդավարական ցանկություն են հայտնում՝ դրական փոփոխություններ բերելու երկրում, որն այդքան տանջվել է Մադուրոյի օրոք»:
