Դիոգենեսն ապրում էր տակառում :

Իրականում այնքան էլ այդպես չէ:

Դիոգենեսը չէր կարող ապրել տակառում, քանի որ այն ժամանակներում Հունաստանում տակառներ չէին պատրաստում: Դիոգենես Սինոպացին (ծնվել է մ.թ.ա. 404 թվականին Սինոպում, մահացել է մ.թ.ա. 323 թվականին Կորնթոսում), հին հույն փիլիսոփա է, կինիկյան փիլիսոփայական դպրոցի հիմնադիրը, Անտիսթենեսի աշակերտը։ Հավանական է, որ նա իրականում ապրում էր իրոք առանձնահատուկ կառույցում, դա պիֆոս էր՝ մեծ կավե կարաս, որը դրված էր Աթենքի ագորայի (քաղաքի կենտրոնական հրապարակ) հարևանությամբ: Պիֆոսների մեջ հին հույները պահում էին ցորեն, գինի, յուղ, նաև դրանց մեջ հուղարկավորում էին մարդկանց: Երբ պիֆոսը անպետք էր դառնում, այն օգտագործում էին որպես շան բույն: Երբ մի անգամ չարաճճի երեխաները ջարդել էին Դիոգենեսի տունը՝ պիֆոսը, աթենացիները նրան ուրիշ պիֆոս էին նվիրել: Ի դեպ, Դիոգենեսի մականուններից մեկը հենց «շուն» էր: Չի բացառվում նաև, որ Դիոգենեսը ընդամենը ապրելիս է եղել փոքրիկ տնակում, որին աթենացիները կատակով պիֆոս՝ շան կացարան են կոչել: Հարցն այն է, որ Դիոգենեսը կինիկյան փիլիսոփայական դպրոցի հիմնադիրն է, իսկ այդ ուսմունքն իր իմաստով համընդհանուր բարոյական նորմերին հակադրվելն է, արհամարհանքը ամեն կարգի ծաղրի ու հայհոյանքի նկատմամբ։ Դիոգենեսն արհամարհում էր ոչ միայն հարստությունը, փառքը, ազնվական ծագումը, այլև ժխտում էր ընտանիքի ու պետության անհրաժեշտությունը։ Որպես միակ պետություն՝ ընդունում էր ողջ աշխարհը՝ իրեն համարելով «աշխարհի քաղաքացի»։ Ըստ նրա, ինչպես ծառաներն են ստրկության մեջ իրենց տերերի ձեռքին, այնպես էլ հիմար մարդիկ ստրկության մեջ են իրենց ցանկությունների ձեռքին։ Հաճույքի հանդեպ արհամարհանքը սովորության միջոցով դառնում է գերագույն հաճույք։ Ի դեպ, կինիկյան բառից է առաջացել ցինիկ բառը: Չնայած Դիոգենեսը մեծ թվով աշակերտներ ուներ, նա ուներ նաև նախանձողներ և հակառակորդներ, որոնք նրան քննադատում էին: Ըստ այն ժամանակվա մի հայտնի փիլիսոփայի կարծիքի, այդքան վատ մտադրություններ ունեցող մարդը՝ Դիոգենեսը, պետք է որ շան պես ապրելիս լիներ պիֆոսում:

Դիոգենեսը եղել է փայլուն հռետոր: Մի անգամ նա հրապարակում սկսում է դասախոսություն կարդալ, բայց նրան ոչ ոք չի լսում: Այդ ժամանակ նա սկսում է սուլել՝ նմանակելով թռչուններին. շատ արագ նրա շուրջը մարդիկ են հավաքվում: Այդ ժամանակ Դիոգենեսն ասում է, թե ահա սա է աթենացիների խելքը, նրանք խելոք բաներ չեն լսում, բայց բերանները բաց լսում են սուլոցը: Նա աթենացիներին համարում էր մարդ կոչվելու ոչ արժանի: Ըստ ավանդույթի, մի անգամ էլ նա օրը ցերեկով վառված լապտերով շրջում էր Աթենքի հրապարակում՝ ամբոխի մեջ, իսկ այն հարցին, թե ինչ է անում՝ պատասխանել է, որ մարդ է փնտրում: Ի դեպ, այստեղ ևս ինչ–որ սխալ կա , հնարավոր է, որ նա շրջել է վառվող մոմը ձեռքին, քանի որ այն ժամանակ աթենացիները լապտերներ չունեին: Դիոգենեսը ապրել է իննսուն տարի, մահացել է Ալեքսանդր Մակեդոնացու հետ նույն օրը, նրա տապանաքարին նկարել են շուն:
